The Jaguars have suffered through four straight losing seasons, including a 5-11 mark this season. "I think this team is very close, on the edge of being a consistent winner," Mularkey said. "I got a chance to see that on the Thursday night we played. I know the outcome of the game, but it was really just to see these guys, to be able to play like they did when they just had a coaching change. It would have been easy to fold."

"Everybody was ready for it to be done," Lewis said. "For me, personally as an offensive guy, I feel like it's a good hire. We're going to get new schemes, a new offense and a fresh start. We were anxious to know what direction we were going to go in, ready to move on and start our new quest for a championship."

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey has informed the Denver Broncos he will not interview for their head coaching opening Friday, Jan. 7, as planned, according to a team source, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. Mularkey is choosing to focus on the Falcons' playoff game next week. Mularkey still wants to be a head coach, and would interview with Denver later if it still had its opening after the Falcons' season ended, according to the source. Mularkey still will go through with his previously scheduled interview Saturday, Jan. 8, with the Cleveland Browns, but he is doing that because they called first and he feels a certain sense of obligation, according to the source.

Concerns along the offensive line will create a need for extra blockers, which is why the team will use two-tight end sets with a fullback.

The Miami Herald reports Miami Dolphins new offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey is going to run the same basic offense that former offensive coordinator Scott Linehan did last season. "The offense is going to be more controlled and more balanced," Miami Dolphins WR Chris Chambers said. "Linehan liked to go downfield a little bit more. Early in the year last year, we were throwing up balls just to be throwing it up. Now there's a reason behind a lot of the stuff we're doing. [Mularkey] wants a tough, physical team. I like his approach."

Ethan Skolnick, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports new Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey is very comfortable implanting the "Dolphins System," which was created by his predecessor Scott Linehan, now head coach of the Saint Louis Rams. Mularkey, who brings more of a physical style of offense to the Dolphins, describes the "System" as having "a scheme philosophy and a how you attack philosophy." "I think how we attack; obviously, I have different ways of doing it than Scott." Mularkey specifically said when referring to a vertical passing game, "It's got to be in your arsenal, but I don't know if you going in thinking that's the only way we're going to win a game is we're throwing the ball downfield."

Mularkey returned home and he is not expected to make a decision until perhaps tonight. Dolphins' spokesman Harvey Greene said the team wouldn't have any comment until "there is something to announce."

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports former Buffalo Bills head coach Mike Mularkey cited family concerns as the reason he resigned Thursday, Jan. 12. Sources close to Mularkey said Thursday night, Jan. 12, that he has already left Buffalo. Owner Ralph Wilson and general manager Marv Levy were said to have been taken aback when Mularkey contacted them Wednesday, Jan. 11, and acknowledged he was mulling his resignation. Mularkey leaves the job with three years, at about $1 million annually, remaining on the five-year contract he signed in 2004. Sources said that, while family considerations played a large role in Mularkey's decision, his views on the future of the franchise were also a significant factor.
