Rays | Jeremy Hellickson will be on a pitch count Sunday

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 14:04:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson (elbow) will throw six innings or 90 pitches in his start for Triple-A Durham Sunday, June 22, according to manager Rays Joe Madden. Madden said he was unsure if Hellickson will return after his start Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson was beat around in his start Tuesday, June 17, so the Rays are likely looking for a sharper performance before he is recalled. When he returns, Erik Bedard is likely the odd man out. Hellickson is a potential ERA and WHIP stabilizer, but he doesn't strikeout enough batters to be more than a low-end option.

Rays | Jeremy Hellickson not ready yet

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 10:54:01 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson (elbow) likely needs at least one more rehab start, according to manager Joe Maddon. Hellickson was beat up in his third rehab start with Triple-A Durham Tuesday, June 17, giving up seven runs and 12 hits in just 2 2/3 innings. Maddon wasn't concerned as much about the results, but he wants to make sure Hellickson is completely ready to return. If Hellickson makes his next rehab start, it'll be on Sunday, June 22, which is the same day SP Erik Bedard pitches.

Fantasy Tip: The Rays aren't rushing Hellickson back. That much is clear. There's still a chance that he will rejoin the rotation before July, though, and Bedard looks to be the odd man out when that time comes. Check to see what Hellickson's availability is in your league.

The team briefly summoned P Enny Romero to join the team, but after Bedard was able to throw and feel fine, the team asked Romero to return to Triple-A Durham.

Fri, 11 Apr 2014 15:09:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon says P Cesar Ramos, who'll start Sunday, April 13, has a chance to remain in the rotation. P Erik Bedard is likely to be called up Sunday, April 13, to take Ramos' spot in the bullpen.

Rays | Cesar Ramos starting Sunday

Fri, 11 Apr 2014 14:47:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays P Cesar Ramos will start Sunday, April 13, and that the club will call up a reliever by that day.

Fantasy Tip: Ramos gets the nod over Erik Bedard but, until he proves otherwise, warrants only an AL-only addition. It's far from guaranteed that he's a long-term rotation solution.
