Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi is experimenting with a new changeup this spring as he competes for the fifth starting rotation spot. Odorizzi is using the same split-finger grip as SP Alex Cobb, and he's hoping to have similar success with the new pitch. SPs Erik Bedard and Alex Colome are also competing with Odorizzi for the No. 5 spot.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erik Bedard has a contract which calls for $1.15 million base salary if he is in the major leagues, and he has a series of bonuses based on games started, from eight to 30. He could earn as much as $1.625 million. Bedard also has a March 23 opt-out clause.

With SP Alexi Ogando scratched due to an anti-inflammatory injection, the Texas Rangers are in need of a starter for the game on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Rather than move the rotation around, speculation has the Rangers dealing for either SP Dan Haren or SP Erik Bedard, who have passed through waivers and can be dealt prior to Aug. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Other tweets have implied that it's not tied to a trade, but no one is aware of an injury to the left-hander, either. Perhaps the Astros are doing as they did with Bud Norris -- just in case they make a deal. Norris may start tonight if he's not traded, but a deal sounds likely for him. Houston may decide to go ahead with Bedard if that happens. Stay tuned.
