Astros | Erik Bedard has start pushed back

Tue, 14 May 2013 18:10:35 -0700

Houston Astros manager Bo Porter said Tuesday, May 14, that SP Erik Bedard will have his next started pushed back a day. The move is not performance-based, but Porter simply wants to split up his left-handed starting pitchers. Bedard's next scheduled start will now come Saturday, May 18, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Astros | Philip Humber moved to bullpen

Wed, 08 May 2013 14:18:19 -0700

Houston Astros SP Philip Humber will be moved to the bullpen with SP Dallas Keuchel taking his spot in the starting rotation. Keuchel will start against the Texas Rangers Friday, May 10, and SP Erik Bedard will make the start Saturday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Keuchel pitches to contact and won't give fantasy players many strikeouts. On the positive side, he doesn't walk many hitters, either, but he's not very attractive outside of AL-only formats. The matchup against the Rangers should probably be avoided at all costs.

Astros | Erik Bedard expected to make rotation

Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:39:23 -0700

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow has hinted that SP Erik Bedard will be in the starting rotation. SPs Alex White and Brad Peacock are fighting for the No. 5 spot.

Fantasy Tip: Bedard can still post decent strikeout numbers when he's healthy, but the rest of his peripherals can hurt you, especially in the American League West. Reserve him for AL-only formats.

Astros | Two optioned

Wed, 20 Mar 2013 12:11:09 -0700

The Houston Astros optioned SPs Jordan Lyles and John Ely to Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday, March 20. Ps Alex White, Brad Peacock, Edgar G. Gonzalez and Erik Bedard are now battling for the final two spots in the starting rotation. Gonzalez is likely to be used in long relief. Lyles had given up 36 hits and 23 earned runs in just 11 2/3 spring innings.

Fantasy Tip: Lyles was working on some things this spring as he matures as a pitcher. Don't write him off after he made significant command gains at the end of last season. He'll be back. Peacock is probably the most intriguing pitcher in the competition for a roster spot and should be given a look in deep NL leagues.
