Tom Haudricourt, of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Capuano (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery, an operation to replace a ligament in an elbow, for the second time in his career. Capuano is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews Tuesday, May 13, and could have the operation as soon as Thursday, May 15. The operation will likely keep Capuano out of action for about a year.

Adam McCalvy, of Brewers.MLB.com, reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Capuano (elbow) has begun a throwing program to try and avoid elbow surgery. He has completed five minutes of throwing from 60 feet and three minutes from 75 feet, according to assistant general manager Gord Ash. He will throw from 90 and 120 feet in the upcoming days. He is still weeks away from throwing off a mound.

Capuano sought a second opinion on his elbow injury and met with Dr. James Andrews. Andrews suggests Capuano rehab the injury for three to four weeks.

Anthony Witrado, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Capuano (elbow) has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow, the team announced Sunday, March 23. Capuano will seek a third opinion from Dr. James Andrews before deciding on Tommy John surgery or an attempt at rehabilitation. Capuano underwent Tommy John surgery in 2002 and it took him 11 months before he was back on the mound competitively. If it is determined he will need a second Tommy John surgery, he would have it as soon as possible and probably before the start of the season. The injury occurred Monday, March 17, in a split-squad game.

Manager Ned Yost wouldn't rule out Capuano in the competition for spots in the rotation, however. "We'll see how he reacts to it, and go from there," Yost said. "He's not throwing today and he's not throwing tomorrow."

The decision was made for Capuano to rest the elbow for a couple of days and be examined later in the week, when team physician William Raasch returns to camp from Milwaukee. Capuano said no tests had been scheduled for the elbow.
