Adam McCalvy, of MLB.com, reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Capuano (elbow) threw two scoreless innings with Rookie-level Helena Wednesday, Sept. 2. He gave up a leadoff double but retired the final six hitters he faced and struck out one. Capuano's fastball sat in the 89-90-mph range earlier in his career, but has been topping out at 85-86 mph this summer. He is scheduled to make a handful of starts for Helena before the end of the season Sept. 11.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Capuano (elbow) suffered a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Capuano developed some inflammation in the elbow and has been restricted from throwing off the mound. "I had to shut down for a couple of weeks," said Capuano. "I'm going to start up again next week. With a second Tommy John, they have to make the bone tunnels bigger for the graft and the doctor said it takes a certain amount of time for that bone to heal. It pushes it back at least a month. I'll shoot for (pitching in) May."

Capuano is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews Tuesday, May 13, and could have the operation as soon as Thursday, May 15. The operation will likely keep Capuano out of action for about a year.

Capuano will seek a third opinion from Dr. James Andrews before deciding on Tommy John surgery or an attempt at rehabilitation. Capuano underwent Tommy John surgery in 2002 and it took him 11 months before he was back on the mound competitively. If it is determined he will need a second Tommy John surgery, he would have it as soon as possible and probably before the start of the season. The injury occurred Monday, March 17, in a split-squad game.

Capuano also hit his first career home run in the game - the first for a Brewers pitcher since Sept. 12, 2003, when Brooks Kieschnick accomplished the feat against the San Francisco Giants.
