NFL | Goodman coaching high school track; wonders if another NFL chance will come

Fri, 30 Jun 2006 05:15:48 -0700

Scott Venci, of PackersNews.com, reports former Green Bay Packers RB Herbert Goodman is coaching high school track. He wonders if another NFL chance might come his way. Goodman also plans to help coach the Southwest High School football team this fall. That is, if the NFL doesn't come calling first. He finished his brief NFL career with four rushing attempts for minus-3 yards. When he looks around the NFL these days, he sees players who he thinks he's on the same level with. But again, Goodman says, it's about getting an opportunity. With NFL training camps set to open next month, Goodman hopes to get a call from someone. Even if he doesn't, he has enough in his life to keep him busy.

"When he can go, he can go." Rossley stated Levens has been very slow while practicing recently. His back injury became an issue during the Lions' game and has bothered him since. Green Bay got two field goals from PK Ryan Longwell, but they scored no TDs after QB Brett Favre left the game. Favre threw a 87-yard TD pass to WR Corey Bradford in the first quarter. Packers backup RBs Herbert Goodman and De'Mond Parker both were held to small yardage.

Packers | Shopping Around?

Mon, 27 Aug 2001 20:55:35 -0700

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers were reportedly on the phones Monday attempting to shop one of their extra RBs. Unless the Packers swing a trade before rosters are reduced to 53, they will be forced to cut two or three from the group and get nothing in return. RBs Dorsey Levens and Ahman Green seem to be locked in, but Rondell Mealey, De'Mond Parker and Herbert Goodman were all available for the right price. The Packers could receive an offer for FBs William Henderson or Matt Snider as well. Candidates for acquiring a RB reportedly include the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Packers | RB Update

Wed, 24 Jan 2001 22:21:12 -0800

The Journal Sentinel reports even though Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman pays a lot of compliments to RB Ahman Green for his 2000 season, he's not ready to commit to him as the featured back for 2001. "I'm not going to tell you right now that he's the guy," Sherman said. Sherman knows that Dorsey Levens could be back too. Levens' agent, Hadley Engelhard, began negotiating with the Packers to lower Levens' salary a day after Levens suffered what would be a season-ending knee injury at Miami on October 29. Levens has said he is willing to take a pay cut, but if the Packers and Levens do not reach an agreement, the team would probably release Levens before a roster bonus is due to be paid in March and save $4.5 million against the 2001 cap. If Levens left Herbert Goodman, De'Mond Parker and Rondell Mealey would be the only other RBs on the roster - in addition to Green.

Packers | More on Goodman

Fri, 01 Dec 2000 08:16:25 -0800

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one of the reasons the Packers elevated RB Herbert Goodman from their practice squad to their active roster was to make sure he doesn't depart to another team. Goodman has impressed the team this year and they don't want him to simply be scooped up by some other team. If he can hold onto the roster spot and the team makes him an offer in February, he'll be bound to them for 2001.
