The Sun-Sentinel reports a hearing on a grievance filed by the Miami Dolphins against QB Josh Heupel will be held by the NFLPA in October. It had been scheduled for June. The Dolphins are trying to recover about $83,000 they paid Heupel, contending that he had lied about a wrist injury before the team selected him in the 6th round of the 2001 draft. Heupel has also filed a grievance hoping to receive the $107,000 he believes he’s due for the 16 weeks he wasn’t on the roster last year.

The Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman said he may bring as many as five QBs to training camp. Based on their performances at mini-camp this weekend, QBs Josh Heupel and Dave Meyer won't be among them. There aren't a lot of available quarterbacks, so it's possible Sherman won't have any choice but to stick with them.

He may still be affected by a wrist injury, but hasn't shown the mechanics the other QBs on roster have.

According to the Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Packers rookie QB Craig Nall will be given a shot to win the team's No. 2 QB slot. "Obviously, that's what you're shooting for," coach Mike Sherman said. "But that's a long jump." The team's other QBs are Josh Heupel and current No. 2 Doug Pederson. Offensive coordinator Tom Rossley feels Nall has a much stronger arm, quicker feet and a more durable body than Heupel.

Associated Press reports the Miami Dolphins have filed grievance with the NFLPA and are asking Josh Heupel to repay about $83,000 in signing bonus, training camp pay and base salary for the two games he was on injured reserve for. Heupel has also filed grievance and is asking for $107,000 in base salary for the 16 weeks he wasn’t with the team for. The Dolphins think Heupel didn’t reveal a pre-existing wrist injury on forms given out before and after the draft. Heupel claims he injured the wrist during an exhibition game. Both cases will present their grievances in June.

Currently, Josh Heupel is the only quarterback other than Brett Favre on the roster. "I would think he’s going to end up back in Green Bay," Pederson agent Benjamin Geller said of his client. "He wants to be back in Green Bay."

As an update to Thursday's report, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports QB Josh Heupel will receive a three-year deal from the Green Bay Packers. He'll receive a small signing bonus in the range of $5,000. Heupel will compete for one of the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback position.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Cincinnati Bengals have an interest in signing rookie QB Josh Heupel to their practice squad. However, Heupel's agent Ross Levin said Tuesday Heupel can't work out for the team because his surgically repaired left wrist is taking longer than expected to heal.

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers had free agent rookie QB Josh Heupel in for a physical on Tuesday. As previously reported, the team remains interested in signing him at least to the practice sqaud. One issue - it appears he will undergo surgery on his left wrist that will sideline him for about three months. "All indications are that that is what he is going to do," said Packers director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie. "He will rehab it and then see if he can latch on at season's end."

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers were in contact with Ross Levin, the agent for rookie QB Josh Heupel, but it does not look like anything will be done soon to bring him to Green Bay. Levin said Heupel, who was cut Wednesday by the Miami Dolphins, probably needs surgery on a tendon in his left wrist. If surgery were necessary, Heupel would be in a cast for two months and would need another five to six weeks to heal. Levin said the Packers interest would probably be with the practice squad, although they might choose to wait until after the regular season and sign him to the roster.

The Sun-Sentinel's Craig Barnes reports the Miami Dolphins continue to attempt to reach an injury settlement with QB Josh Heupel, but they are at a stalemate. There is a dispute over whether his wrist injury was a pre-existing one and something he should have told the team. Apparently, Heupel didn’t make the Dolphins aware of the previous problems with his wrist, and it is the point of contention as the two sides attempt to reach an agreement on the injury settlement.

Stories have been out both ways, but the team may be working on an injury settlement for Heupel (wrist) and Boyd (ankle).

Former Packers GM Ron Wolf had indicated the team had an interest in Heupel during the NFL Draft in April. "We would look at him just like we look at everybody else out there," said Mark Hatley, Packers VP of football operations. "We'll just have to wait and see." He will be replaced in the starting lineup by rookie WR Chris Chambers. QB Cade McNown is expected to dress, but he probably won't play. Rookie QB Josh Heupel stayed behind too as the team attempts to workout an injury settlement with him before releasing him before Tuesday's roster cutdown day.

Chris Perkins reports for the Sun Sentinel Miami Dolphins QB Mike Quinn will now have to compete with newly acquired QB Cade McNown for the team's No. 3 QB job. "I'm not going to let this affect the way I practice or play," Quinn said. "I plan on working just as hard as I always have." Rookie QB Josh Heupel hasn't practiced in more than a week and his future with the Dolphins doesn't seem as though it will extend past Tuesday, when rosters have to be down to 65. Earlier reports said the Dolphins might consider keeping four QBs on the roster, but coach Dave Wannstedt quickly shot that idea down. "We won't keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man [roster]," Wannstedt said.

Mark Long reports for the Associated Press rookie QB Josh Heupel's chances of making the Miami Dolphins final roster are fading. He sprained his left wrist Aug. 6 against the St. Louis Rams in the Hall of Fame game. He has missed two weeks and two pre-season games, severely limiting his chances of making the team as the No. 3 QB. "Obviously, it's disappointing for me," Heupel said. "It comes at a bad time. Training camp is the most important time, especially for a rookie." Coach Dave Wannstedt said Heupel would not play in this weekend's pre-season game. "As soon as he gets healthy, we'll try to get him out there and get him back in some drills," Wannstedt said.

Updating an earlier story, the Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said Friday Dolphins rookie QB Josh Heupel will be out at least one to two weeks with a left wrist injury. The injury hinders his chance to make the team's final roster. He is competing against Mike Quinn to become the Dolphins third-string quarterback. An MRI test taken on Heupel’s wrist Thursday was negative, but he will get a second opinion on Monday.

Heupel will receive a three-year deal believed to be worth $963,000, including a signing bonus of around $67,000. Heupel will receive base salaries of $209,000, $298,000 and $389,000.

He mostly worked out of the shotgun formation during college, so he's had to work on his mechanics. He's now throwing the ball much better. The Miami Herald reports Heupel and Mike Quinn will battle for the No. 3 QB job in Miami this year.

The Miami Herald is reporting there’s a battle going on for the No. 3 QB position between veteran Mike Quinn and rookie Josh Heupel. The Dolphins plan on carrying only 3 QBs this year so one will have to be cut from the team. Quinn is the front-runner at the moment because he knows offensive coordinator Chan Gailey’s offensive scheme.

"I’m not going there with thoughts of never competing for a job and sitting behind everybody for the rest of my career, but you don’t focus on those things," Heupel said. He will compete with Jay Fiedler, Ray Lucas and Mike Quinn at QB. Coach Dave Wannstedt said Heupel has all the intangibles. Heupel knows his sore elbow late in the season could have hurt him in the draft, but he’s eager to prove his critics wrong.

The Kansas City Star reports the Kansas City Chiefs are looking at their QB position from all angles. They attended workouts of several college QBs recently, including Oklahoma's Josh Heupel, Iowa State's Sage Rosenfels and Louisiana State's Josh Booty. The Chiefs will be in Indiana Wednesday to watch Purdue's Drew Brees. Coach Dick Vermeil had this to say about the team's reported interest in Jaguars QB Mark Brunell, "We're just sort of following what's happening with that. If they get to a point where they feel they're not able to sign him, that's when we might take a closer look." When talking about the team's upcoming free agent QB visits, Vermeil indicated he was bringing guys in for a look right now, and "not to sign them."

The Cincinnati Enqurier reports the Bengals are shopping for rookie and free agent QBs and appear headed for a four-way competition at training camp. As previously reported, the team is interested in free agent QBs Brad Johnson, Gus Frerotte, Jon Kitna and Scott Mitchell, coach Dick LeBeau and offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said Saturday, They would also be interested in Rob Johnson if he loses the QB battle in Buffalo. On the draft front, LeBeau likes Purdue's Drew Brees, and Bratkowski is high on Brees, Mike McMahon of Rutgers and Sage Rosenfels of Iowa State. The team will bring back QB Akili Smith and it also looks like they may be able to re-sign Scott Mitchell. If the team waits to the middle rounds to draft a QB, Josh Heupel could be there for them.
