Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports a Detroit Lions source said that QB Daunte Culpepper has not been named the team's starting quarterback for 2009. Former WR Mike Furrey had previously said during a radio interview that the team's quarterbacks have been informed that Culpepper will be the starter next season. According to the source, Culpepper might remain in the mix, but the team is still exploring its options in signing a veteran quarterback or selecting one in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Furrey said, "It's probably already out there anyway but I know Danny's looking. He's a free agent and he's looking [and] ready to go somewhere else. And he's done well enough to deserve a chance to start or at least compete for a starting spot somewhere. I know they've asked him to come back and be the backup. Hopefully he'll get a chance somewhere else but that's what they're doing in Detroit."
