Atlanta Braves 2B Tyler Pastornicky is expected to earn the last bench spot on the active roster after proving this spring that he's healthy following September knee surgery. Pastornicky is 5-for-12 (.417) in five Grapefruit League games. The rest of the bench is likely to include 2B Ramiro Pena, OF Jordan Schafer and Cs Gerald Laird and Ryan Doumit.

Atlanta Braves C Gerald Laird (kidney) worked out Wednesday, Aug. 7, with the team's Class A affiliate in Rome (Ga.), getting his first baseball activity since undergoing a procedure to remove kidney stones last week. He is expected to play in a minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Gwinnett Friday, Aug. 9, and might return from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, Aug. 10, barring any setbacks.

Atlanta Braves C Gerald Laird (kidney) is expected to play in a minor-league rehab game Wednesday, Aug. 7, for Class A Rome, or at least take batting practice with the big club. Laird is recovering after having a procedure to remove a kidney stone last week. He is expected to play for Triple-A Gwinnett Friday, Aug. 9, and might come off the 15-day disabled list as soon as Saturday, Aug. 10.
