The Denver Rocky Mountain News reports Colorado Rockies P Jaime Cerda was designated for assignment March 31. The team has 10 days to decide what it wants to do with Cerda, but all indications are he would be sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs if he passes through waivers.

Dick Kaegel, of Royals.MLB.com, reports Kansas City Royals RP Jaime Cerda has been named by manager Tony Pena as one of the potential relievers to see save opportunities while CL Jeremy Affeldt (oblique) is out due to injury. Pena is going to use a closer by committee approach while Affeldt is on the DL.
