Angels | Brian Moran looking to break streak

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim haven't carried a Rule 5 pick on their big league roster since 2000, when RP Derrick Turnbow. However, left-handed RP Brian Moran has a chance to break the streak. If he doesn't make the team and clears waivers, the Seattle Mariners could re-acquire him for $25,000. Moran is battling Ps Robert Carson and Clay Rapada to be a second left-handed relief option behind RP Sean Burnett (elbow), who is returning from an elbow surgery and might not be ready for the regular season opener.

Marlins | Willing to give Turnbow another chance

Marlins.MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports free-agent RP Derrick Turnbow (shoulder) said the Florida Marlins were open to giving him another chance when he recovers from his shoulder injury. Turnbow said he plans on visiting either Dr. James Andrews or Dr. Lewis Yocum and will likely have surgery.

The Miami Herald's Clark Spencer reports the Florida Marlins optioned P Jay Buente and Brett Sinkbeil to Triple-A New Orleans. P Kris Harvey was optioned to Double-A Jacksonville. RP Derrick Turnbow (shoulder) was released. 3B Matt Dominguez, SS Osvaldo Martinez, P Dan Jennings, RP Matt Peterson, P Chris Schroder and C Chris Hatcher were reassigned to minor league camp.

Joe Frisaro, of MLB.com, reports Florida Marlins RP Derrick Turnbow (shoulder) buckled on the mound after throwing a pitch Tuesday, March 16, due to pain in his shoulder. He is waiting to find out if he will need surgery. Turnbow expects to undergo an MRI in the next day or so. "Whatever it is, I'm going to be shut down for a while," said Turnbow. "My chance for the big league team is over, either way."

The Palm Beach Post reports Florida Marlins RP Derrick Turnbow (toe) has been in pain since jamming his left big toe last week and it became infected. On Sunday, Feb. 28, the swelling burst as he was warming up to throw batting practice and after the trainers took a look he was deemed fit to continue throwing. "Now that it popped all the pressure is gone," he said. "I was able to go out today and throw more strikes."
