The Journal-Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers have not invited OT Earl Dotson, an unrestricted free agent, to attending their upcoming minicamp. Dotson had hoped to continue playing, but the Packers are not interested in re-signing him. He could, however, be an injury policy for the team down the road.

"It's to clean up some cartilage," said Dotson, who said that the knee was not swollen and that it was not giving him any pain. "It's right under the kneecap. We just want to clean it out." Dotson said he expects to be ready for July's training camp.

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers actually had to release OT Earl Dotson Friday after they found out the one-year, $675,000 contract he recently signed was not legal. The Packers and Dotson had agreed to a split contract, which means if Dotson landed on injured reserve he would receive a reduction in base salary from $650,000 to $300,000. To receive the veteran's exemption, the split had to be written at $250,000. Agent Jack Bechta agreed to the new split, which will go into effect only if Dotson goes on the injured list during training camp. The team is expecting Dotson to quickly sign the new contract.

"Barry’s taken all the reps this week and has done a really nice job last week against (Tampa Bay’s) Simeon Rice,” coach Mike Sherman said Friday. If Stokes gets hurt and Clifton can’t replace him, then RT Mark Tauscher is the emergency left tackle, and Earl Dotson would replace Tauscher on the right side.

VP of football operations Mark Hatley said Monday the Packers were exploring possibilities to upgrade the team but had nothing hot going. The team has reportedly been attempting to trade OT Earl Dotson for a fifth- or sixth-round pick, but a personnel director for a National Football League team said he had not heard of any deals involving Dotson and thought the Packers would be fortunate to get a sixth-round pick.

Rookie WR Robert Ferguson could not remember much about the game after suffering a mild concussion in the fourth quarter. He was hit by Raiders S Raymond Perryman before the ball arrived. Perryman suffered a jaw injury and mild concussion. TE David Martin sat out last night after he suffered a separated shoulder Wednesday when he fell attempting to catch a pass.

The Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers CB Tyrone Williams left practice on Monday when he aggravated a groin injury. Williams felt his groin tighten during one-on-one coverage drills and took himself out of practice. He described the problem as minor and said he would play Friday night in Oakland. Earl Dotson returned as the backup right tackle and participated in the entire two-hour practice two days after he had back spasms and was forced to leave the Miami pre-season game. DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila left practice with an ice pack on his right foot after it was stepped on early in practice. The injury is not thought to be serious. Also sitting out were RB Rondell Mealey (ankle), DE Jamal Reynolds (knee) and defensive DT Santana Dotson (thigh).
