During his press conference, Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli discussed RB Arlen Harris. Marinelli said, "He did a nice job in our first preseason game. He's got some nice versatility where he can catch, he knows he can block; he's got some ability to do some nice things in terms of running the ball. We'll just wait and see but it's been a good start for him."

Mike O'Hara, of the Detroit News, reports Detroit Lions RB Arlen Harris is very familiar with the team's offensive system after playing under offensive coordinator Mike Martz while with the St. Louis Rams. His experience under Martz could help him lock up the No. 2 spot on the depth chart in a deep backfield ahead of RBs Shawn Bryson, Artose Pinner and Brian Calhoun.

Tom Kowalski, of mlive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Artose Pinner faces an uphill battle to land a roster spot. With RBs Kevin Jones and Arlen Harris holding down the Lions' top running back positions; the addition of rookie RB Brian Calhoun may have sealed the end of his stay in Detroit for Pinner. "My whole thing, since college, is that I've never had the chance to come in and be `that guy.' Nothing has ever been given to me so I've always had to work," Pinner said. "I'm looking forward to working and making plays for this team and making this team." Pinner has raised his game in training camp, so far. Pinner dropped 10 pounds to increase his speed and agility and he has looked good in training camp. As the No. 4 back in the rotation, he doesn't get a lot of practice repetitions, but he's sparkled when he's had the chance. If the Lions do cut Pinner, it won't be until late in the preseason. He is great insurance in case another back is injured before the regular season.
