Rays | Erasmo Ramirez blows save

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 20:51:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Erasmo Ramirez blew his fourth save and took the loss against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, June 30, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a rough stretch for Ramirez. He could still be a cheap source of saves for a few more days, but he can be cut loose as soon as Alex Colome comes off the disabled list.

Dodgers | LAD interested in Erasmo Ramirez

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 17:08:21 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in trading for Tampa Bay Rays RP Erasmo Ramirez, according to multiple major-league sources. However, the Dodgers plan to use him as a starter if they acquire him.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez is 7-6 with a 3.75 ERA in 31 appearances this season, with 12 walks and 36 strikeouts over 50 1/3 innings entering play Wednesday, June 29. The 26-year-old right-hander has only made one start in 2016 but has made 63 starts in his five-year MLB career, including 27 starts last season. If acquired, he wouldn't have much fantasy value outside of NL-only leagues.

Rays | Tampa to play matchups in ninth

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 14:41:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said the team will "play matchup game, piecing it together" in the ninth inning with RP Alex Colome (biceps) injured. RPs Erasmo Ramirez, Matt Andriese and Xavier Cedeno are all likely to figure in.

Fantasy Tip: Colome's injury isn't serious and he could be back as soon as July 4, so don't invest heavily in Tampa's ninth-inning picture without him in the short term. Ramirez is likely your best bet if you're desperate for saves in the meantime, but temper your expectations.

Rays | Alex Colome unlikely to be available

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:22:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome is unlikely to be available in a save situation after working three straight days and four of the last five days. RPs Erasmo Ramirez and Xavier Cedeno could be options in the ninth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has been excellent in the ninth-inning role with Brad Boxberger injured to begin the season. Colome has a 2.08 ERA, 11.1 K/9 and nine saves, and he has made a case to remain in the role even when Boxberger is healthy. That'd considerably raise his standing as a closer, but it's uncertain how the Rays will treat the situation. Keep Boxberger stashed everywhere until we know more.

Rays | Matt Moore may be skipped

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore may have his start skipped Sunday, May 8, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels hit left-handers much better than right-handers. SP Matt Andriese or SP Erasmo Ramirez could make the start Sunday. If Moore makes the start, SP Blake Snell could come up to start Monday, May 9, or Tuesday, May 10, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, and he has 37 K's in 36 1/3 innings. So he's really feast or famine right now, but he's a low-end consideration. Snell is the team's top pitching prospect and is worth the speculative waiver claim and stash.

Rays | Matt Andriese may start Saturday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 09:24:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese might start for SP Erasmo Ramirez Saturday, April 23, against the New York Yankees. Ramirez pitching in relief on Thursday, April 21, caused the change.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese is an interesting pitcher to stream because he's proven he can be a big league starter. In fact, if he were on some other teams, he'd probably be on the major league pitching staff. Alas, he's just rotation depth in Tampa, but will have an opportunity on tap. The problem is, it's coming on the road at Yankee Stadium against an overdue offense. Owners can lay off him for this particular assignment, but he's someone to watch if a spot were to open up.

Rays | Erasmo Ramirez starting Saturday

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:50:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez is starting against the Chicago White Sox Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez won 11 games with a 3.51 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and a 6.9 K/9 through 27 starts last season, including a nine-start stretch where he allowed just seven earned runs and struck out 41 batters through 48 2/3 innings. There is upside here in the majority of seasonal leagues, but you'll likely want to be selective with who you start Ramirez against and keep expectations in check until he is fully stretched out.

Rays | Tampa starting with four-man rotation

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 10:03:37 -0700

The Tampa Bay Rays will start the year with a four-man rotation, which means SP Erasmo Ramirez will open the year in the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Some teams go this route with more off days in the early portion of the schedule in April. Ramirez showed more promise in his move to Tampa last year with improved ground-ball abilities and elite control. He's in line for some regression, though, since he doesn't strike out many. Purely an AL-only option for now.
