The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to terms with free-agent SS Yeremiah Bell (Jets) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Patriots | Safety is position of need

The New England Patriots have four players under contract for 2013 at the safety position, but the spot is considered a moderate-to-high position of need. The projected top targets are impending free-agent safeties David Bruton (Broncos), Dashon Goldson (49ers) and Ed Reed (Ravens). The team could also show an interest in safeties Yeremiah Bell (Jets), Patrick Chung (Patriots), Chris D. Clemons (Dolphins), Craig Dahl (Rams), Louis Delmas (Lions), Abram Elam (Chiefs), LaRon Landry (Jets), William Moore (Falcons), Kenny Phillips (Giants), Glover Quin (Texas) or Jamarca Sanford (Vikings).

New York Jets QB Greg McElroy didn't do anything spectacular in relief of QB Mark Sanchez in Week 13, completing five of seven passes for 29 yards and a touchdown, but he provided a lift. "You could definitely feel a spark in the stadium," SS Yeremiah Bell said.

All of the players above practiced in full Saturday, Oct. 6.

New York Jets LB David Harris (ankle) will be ready to play in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Rex Ryan. OT Sione Pouha (back), S Yeremiah Bell (knee), TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) and WR Chaz Schilens (ankle) are also expected to play in the opener. However, S Eric Smith (hip, knee) may not make it back by then. S Josh Bush would serve as the third safety if Smith can't play.

New York Jets SS Yeremiah Bell said he believes he and FS LaRon Landry can cover New England Patriots TEs Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. "They're good tight ends," Bell told me after practice on Wednesday. "You don't want to take any credit away from those guys. But we're good safeties. They're just people. We can go out there and we can cover those guys. We can do what needs to be done. I don't think it's a mismatch either way."
