Wed, 22 May 2013 09:57:54 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (rib cage) will have an MRI following his absence from the club's game on Tuesday, May 21. He was scratched after he felt pain and a burning sensation in the area following a swing during batting practice. Utley won't play on Wednesday, May 22. It sounds as if the test will take place on Thursday, May 23. If he lands on the disabled list, then Freddy Galvis would fill in at second base, and the club would probably recall INF Cesar Hernandez or 1B/OF Darin Ruf. Fantasy Tip: This doesn't sound like a major injury, but a DL stint, one that could require more than the minimum stay, seems more than likely. Generally, teams don't like to mess around with these kinds of upper-body injuries because of how easily they're aggravated. It's a temporary setback to what has been a nice rebound for Utley, but it's something folks can deal with. Galvis would have value in deep mixed leagues in the interim.
Tue, 21 May 2013 15:59:49 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (side) has been scratched Tuesday, May 21, because of right side discomfort. Fantasy Tip: Freddy Galvis will start in his place tonight and probably for however long Utley needs to sit. Galvis is primarily NL-only fodder but could serve as a desperation play in deep mixed games if this lingers.
Fri, 03 May 2013 13:41:27 -0700 The Philadelphia Phillies have given other teams the idea that they won't come close to considering a fire sale for at least another two months, but when that time comes and if they do become sellers, 2B Chase Utley might be coveted by many teams. The Phillies have given the impression that they will go to Utley first to see if he wants to go elsewhere. He is in the last year of his contract and can block trades to 21 teams.

"I feel pretty (darn) good right now," he said. "I think I trained a little more differently. I trained to play baseball, not just to take pressure off my knees. So it's worked. It's given me strength in my legs, which I can already feel a difference taking ground balls, swinging the bat. There is something there, where in the last few years there hasn't been." Utley performed baseball activities throughout the offseason and fielded groundballs a week following the season, fielding anywhere from 50 to 80 balls a couple times a week for roughly six weeks.

He's actually done very well."
