Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knee), who hasn't played a game this season because of chronic tendonitis in his knees, took some ground balls before the game Thursday, May 24. Utley rejoined the team on May 5. There still is no timetable for his return.

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knees) said he felt good after taking groundballs Wednesday, May 16, and plans to take more before the game Thursday, May 17. However, Utley will be cautious not to overwork himself and create a setback.

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knees) took batting practice Friday, May 11, but still isn't taking grounders. "He wasn't really on the dirt (while rehabbing in Arizona)," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "He was doing stuff in kind of a controlled environment. He was doing most of it on turf. When he's ready to take grounders, he'll take them."

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knees) displayed some power during batting practice Wednesday, May 9, but there are questions about his progress because he has yet to take part in infield work. Utley says he'll take part in infield drills soon. "Grounders are harder because I have to get my legs under me and in a more athletic position," Utley said. "Those are things that I'm going to have to progress doing. I can't just go out there and take 100 ground balls right off the bat. I know myself and, at this point, that wouldn't be good for me."

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knees) is fielding grounders and running in Philadelphia, and general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said he will stay in Philadelphia until "he feels comfortable." He is expected to go to Florida for a minor-league rehab assignment with Class A Clearwater when he is ready for game action.

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knees) has made the team very optimistic on his prognosis after being able to use his lower half to drive balls in batting practice. The team now thinks it's possible that he can return later this month and that he could be closer to his old form.

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (knees) could begin his rehab with Single-A Clearwater as soon as Sunday, May 6. However, this doesn't mean he'll immediately play in rehab games since he has yet to meet with team doctors.
