Phillies | Chase Utley to the Angels?

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 07:03:02 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) is getting closer to a rehab assignment for inflammation in his right ankle and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are monitoring the situation, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez. Utley is unlikely to reach the 500 plate appearances necessary to vest his $15 million option for 2016, making him an intriguing veteran trade candidate for a contender.

Fantasy Tip: Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has batted .179 with four home runs and a .257 on-base percentage in 65 games for the Phillies and their third worst run-scoring offense in baseball. Utley has always been able to take a walk and batting in front of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols on the 12th best offense would be a positive fantasy development. Playing in a pennant race can't hurt.

Phillies | Updated Chase Utley timeline

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 13:18:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) is expected to begin a rehab assignment "next week or so," according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.

Fantasy Tip: Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hasn't played since Monday, June 22, and he was in a 5-for-54 funk with a .299 OPS over 17 games before the injury. He is a low-end fantasy option at this point. Plus, Cesar Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) appears to have leapfrogged Utley in the pecking order at the keystone.

Phillies | Chase Utley takes part in drills

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 08:03:58 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) fielded some ground balls and did some running last week and is making progress in his recovery from an ankle injury. Interim head coach Pete Mackanin said there is no timetable for Utley's return, but he appears close to playing.

Fantasy Tip: Utley's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) role with the team is uncertain when he returns since he may not be the starting second baseman when he is activated. Owners on FantasyScore should monitor the situation until his role is known.

Phillies | Chase Utley fixing swing

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 10:33:12 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) is feeling much better and figured out a flaw in his swing that was caused by his injury, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: After hitting only .179 (39-for-218) with four home runs and 25 RBI in the first half, Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) won't just be given the second base job back. He'll have to earn it with Cesar Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) performing well in his absence. Utley should be avoided on FantasyScore until we see some concrete evidence that he can turn things around in the second half.

Phillies | Chase Utley may have lost job

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 16:38:31 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) won't be guaranteed the starting second base job when he returns, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. "Not for me he's not," Amaro said. "Cesar Hernandez is our best second baseman."

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has hit .438 (28-for-64) with a 1.009 OPS since June 21, and he's hard to ignore on FantasyScore at that cheap price. He also has nine stolen bases in that span. Hernandez should be owned in the majority of traditional leagues, too, at least while he's playing well and in an everyday role.

Phillies | Cesar Hernandez might be everyday 2B

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 18:52:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez has done such an admirable job filling in for 2B Chase Utley (ankle) that he could be the everyday second baseman even when Utley returns. "I would like to think Cesar has proven that he deserves a chance to be the everyday second baseman," manager Pete Mackanin said Tuesday, June 30. "That remains to be seen. I don't know. I don't want to get ahead of myself. Let's just wait to see when Chase is healthy and how he feels and we'll go from there."

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez is hitting .436 (17-for-39) with four doubles, seven RBIs and a 1.016 OPS overh is past 10 games, while Utley posted a .179 average with a .532 OPS in 249 plate appearances before his injury. Hernandez ($2,100; or 4.2% of cap) is a stud in FantasyScore at this price level while he is running hot.

Phillies | Chase Utley resting

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 12:38:36 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Tuesday, June 23. 2B Cesar Hernandez is once again starting at the keystone and hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is a pesky light-hitting sleeper option at second base on FantasyScore. He's hitting .343 (12-for-35) against southpaws this year, too, making him at least worth a look for some cap relief. Sabathia is allowing a slash line of .335/.367/.558 to right-handers, and 14 of the 15 homers he's allowed this year have come against righties.

Phillies | Chase Utley as the DH Monday

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 13:09:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth in the order against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Monday, June 22. 2B Cesar Hernandez is playing second base and hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has struggled all season (.182/.258/.280) with four home runs and 25 RBI, and he shouldn't be on your FantasyScore radar, especially while facing Pineda, who has been one of the Yankees' most consistent starters in 2015.

Phillies | Chase Utley's time being monitored

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 06:34:02 -0700

Utley has a $15 million option for 2016 that vests if he reaches 500 plate appearances. Over the last calendar year, Utley is hitting .217 with 10 homers and 70 RBI spanning 150 games.

Fantasy Tip: Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) can't be used on FantasyScore with the funk he is in right now.
