Dodgers | Hanley Ramirez activated

Tue, 04 Jun 2013 15:23:37 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated SS Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 4, and placed SP Chris Capuano (forearm) on the 15-day DL in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Get Ramirez back into your lineups. Luis Cruz will be pushed back to third base, but he could be part of a platoon with Jerry Hairston Jr. or Nick Punto. Capuano will head to the DL for the second time this year. Stephen Fife could remain in the rotation for the time being after a nice outing against the San Diego Padres last night.

Dodgers | Dee Gordon sent down

Mon, 27 May 2013 15:34:31 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned SS Dee Gordon to Triple-A Albuquerque. In a corresponding move, the team activated OF Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee) from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon being sent down could indicate Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) could be close to returning. Nick Punto and Luis Cruz could see time at shortstop until Ramirez returns. Neither should be considered in mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Mark Ellis testing quad

Tue, 14 May 2013 15:31:04 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) is testing his quadriceps by running the bases before the game Tuesday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Nick Punto and Skip Schumaker to continue filling in at the keystone with Ellis out. There is no timetable for Ellis to return, but once he does, he should be a nice BA aid in deep mixed leagues for your middle infield spot.

Dodgers | Mark Ellis to DL

Mon, 06 May 2013 16:15:39 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers will place 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, May 6, to make room on the roster for SP Chris Capuano (calf), who is being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Nick Punto and Skip Schumaker will likely continue to split time at the keystone with Ellis moving to the disabled list. Neither option is valuable beyond NL-only leagues, however.

Dodgers | Mark Ellis strains right quad Friday

Sat, 27 Apr 2013 09:20:23 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) suffered a strained right quadriceps against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, April 26, while running to first base in the bottom of the fifth inning. He was replaced on defense by INF Nick Punto in the sixth inning. Ellis is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Saturday, April 27, and could be headed for the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Punto figures to see the bulk of the playing time at second base if Ellis is sidelined for an extended period of time. INFs Jerry Hairston Jr. and Skip Schumaker are also capable of playing second. However, none of these players are worthy of consideration except in deep NL-only and mixed leagues.

Dodgers | To mix and match at 3B

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 11:24:26 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly plans on mixing and matching at third base, with 3B Juan Uribe starting at third base Thursday, April 25, after three games of INF Jerry Hairston Jr. playing the hot corner. 3B Nick Punto has also started there twice with 3B Luis Cruz hitting .087. "It's hard to say it belongs to anybody," Mattingly said of third base. "I'll keep trying to match up numbers the best I can. The bright side is they all catch the ball. For me, it's mix and match." Cruz is "working on stuff" in the batting cages to try to shake his slump.

Fantasy Tip: This has now become a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues, perhaps even NL-only leagues, at least for now. Cruz will probably be given a shot to reclaim the job outright, but he'll have to make the most of the opportunities when he gets them. Look elsewhere for the time being.

Dodgers | Justin Sellers being considered

Thu, 21 Mar 2013 11:09:43 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Justin Sellers will be considered to fill in for SS Hanley Ramirez (thumb), even though Sellers was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque Tuesday, March 19. SS Dee Gordon (ankle) is dealing with a mild left ankle sprain. Sellers is considered a better pure defender than Gordon, but he was hitting only .150 this spring. INFs Luis Cruz, Nick Punto, Juan Uribe and Jerry Hairston Jr. are all options, as well. SS Miguel Rojas is in minor league camp and has been compared defensively to former SS Omar Vizquel.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear what direction the Dodgers will go at shortstop, but Cruz and Gordon make the most sense. The bottom line is none of these options have significant fantasy value, and Los Angeles will likely stick with whoever is playing the best.
