Mon, 17 Jun 2013 15:03:20 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he thinks OF Lucas Duda starting at first base and 2B Daniel Murphy at second base is the team's best lineup, with OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Juan Lagares and Marlon Byrd in the outfield. "You're allowed to change," Collins said. "There's nothing that's etched in stone. You're allowed to make changes and you're allowed to make decisions that you think are in the best interest of the ballclub. And last week we made decisions that we thought were in the best interest of the ballclub. They didn't work. So, as I ask our players to adjust, I've got to do the same thing." Moving Duda to first doesn't mean that 1B Ike Davis will be in the minors longer than expected, however. Davis is hitting .174 (4-for-23) with four walks and seven strikeouts with Triple-A Las Vegas in six games. Fantasy Tip: As Duda mentions, he's familiar with first base after playing the position extensively in the minors. This doesn't change his value at all, and Collins said they can move Duda back to the outfield when they're comfortable recalling Davis. The biggest loser is Jordany Valdespin, who wasn't hitting well in his stretch of starts at second base.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:48:03 -0700 The New York Mets selected the contracts of RPs LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice and Scott Atchison and OF Marlon Byrd Friday, March 29. They also outrighted SS Reese Havens and RP Darin Gorski to the minors.
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 15:38:26 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said the team will stick with their current stable of outfielders - OFs Lucas Duda, Collin Cowgill, Marlon Byrd, Mike Baxter and Jordany Valdespin. Byrd figures to have the best chance for an everyday role at the moment. Fantasy Tip: The most common outfield alignment will probably involve Duda, Cowgill and Byrd. None are ringing endorsements for mixed leagues unless you're in a cavernous format. NL-only leagues are a different story.
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 14:26:17 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said OF Marlon Byrd is still a possibility to start in center field with the final outfield positioning still a "work in progress."
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 14:41:30 -0700 New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd is hitting .324 this spring and the team is 99.9 percent certain that he will win the right field job. He has four RBIs and four doubles in 13 spring games. Fantasy Tip: Now that the job is his in right field, he'll move onto the radar of deep NL-only leaguers after many thought his career was over after receiving a 50-game suspension for a banned substance last year.
Mon, 04 Mar 2013 14:12:30 -0800 New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd had an RBI and a sacrifice fly Monday, March 4, and the veteran outfielder is hitting .400 this spring. Manager Terry Collins thinks Byrd benefitted from playing winter ball in Mexico this offseason.
Fri, 01 Mar 2013 00:14:47 -0800 New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd has a decent chance to stick with the parent club when it breaks camp and heads north, but Byrd has said if he doesn't make the roster then he may call it a career. "I kind of look at it as a last chance," Byrd said. "If I don't make this team, I don't see many other chances in baseball. That's the way I'm playing, like it is my last chance."
Fri, 15 Feb 2013 13:27:15 -0800 New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd hit .318 with six home runs and 46 RBIs in 220 at-bats for Culiacan in the Mexican Winter League this offseason.
Fri, 15 Feb 2013 11:26:04 -0800 New York Mets manager Terry Collins is very impressed with OF Marlon Byrd and said he could win the right field job outright and not even platoon with OF Mike Baxter.
Thu, 07 Feb 2013 17:10:19 -0800 New York Mets OF Zach Lutz is making the transition from third base to the outfield this spring, and he started work on the move with outfield coach Tom Goodwin at the team's spring training complex. Lutz went 1-for-11 in his major league debut last year in seven games but hit .299 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 294 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo. 2B Justin Turner will also get a look in the outfield. They will be competing with OFs Marlon Byrd and Andrew Brown.
