Reds | Marlon Byrd back in lineup

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:53:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd will start in center field and bat fifth against SP Matt Harvey and the New York Mets Saturday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been swinging the bat well recently. He's hit two homers in his last six games and has eight hits total in those six games. Harvey has pitched splendidly in his last two outings, which could bode poorly for Byrd, but he's a good starting option until he stops this hot streak he's on.

Reds | Marlon Byrd sitting vs. Mets

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 14:05:51 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 26. OF Chris Dominguez is starting in left field and batting seventh against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Byrd ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He has gone 8-for-26 with two home runs over his six games since returning from injury. Dominguez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been respectable when given a chance, and he stands as desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players.

Reds | Marlon Byrd homers in return

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 19:09:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd (wrist) went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-0 win over the Miami Marlins in his return from the disabled list Friday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) was coming off a strong month of May when he was injured, and he picked up where he left off. The Marlins will send inconsistent starter Tom Koehler to the mound Saturday, making Byrd worth a look at FantasyScore if you are hunting for a cheaper outfield option.

Reds | Marlon Byrd eyeing return

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 16:04:42 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd (wrist) will play two games with Class AA Pensacola, and if everything goes well, he could potentially return to the Reds this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been extremely streaky this season, but he was opportunistic in May. During the month, Byrd had 14 runs, eight home runs and 17 RBI with a .244/.353/.581 slash line. Give him a game or two to find his groove again at the plate, but FantasyScore players could have a bargain on their hands when Byrd is hot.

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 16:07:18 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd (wrist) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Class AA Pensacola Wednesday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been sidelined since June 2 because of his injury, but it looks like he could return in the near future. Skip Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) likely will continue to start in the outfield until Byrd returns but is not a great option for owners.

Reds | Marlon Byrd without timetable

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 16:43:52 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd (wrist) will wear a soft brace for seven to 10 days and then be re-evaluated, after fracturing his wrist when hit by a pitch Tuesday, June 2. It is not known how long Byrd will be out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) needs to be kept on rosters until more is known about his timeline. Byrd was hitting for an average of just .212, but he is on pace for his third consecutive 20-goal season. Wrist injuries have proven problematic for power hitters in the past, and unless Byrd can make a speedy recovery, he should be dropped.

Reds | Marlon Byrd disabled list bound

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 14:35:41 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, June 3.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) absence leaves a huge hole in the Cincinnati outfield and lineup. Look for Kristopher Negron ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), Skip Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Brennan Boesch ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) to pick up the slack in the outfield, but outside NL-only leagues, none are worth a season-long roster spot. And FantasyScore players would also be wise to aim higher. Check back for updates on the severity of Byrd's injury, his progress and a return timeline.

Reds | Marlon Byrd has fractured wrist

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 05:16:33 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd (wrist) suffered a fractured right wrist after being hit by a pitch Tuesday, June 2. He'll be re-evaluated for a better diagnosis.

Fantasy Tip: The team said they don't know how bad the fracture is, but Byrd is most likely headed to the disabled list. Prospect Kyle Waldrop is hitting .282 with five homers and 29 RBI at Class AA Pensacola and could come up for a long-term role. Brennan Boesch ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will likely fill in for the time being but has minimal FantasyScore appeal.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) likely is receiving a day off after playing in each of the last six games. Skip Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is taking his place in the lineup but is not a great option on FantasyScore.
