Packers | Team Notes

Sun, 25 Feb 2001 19:21:55 -0800

Tom Silverstein reports for the Sporting News the team's salary cap situation won't allow the Packers to pursue any high-priced free agents, but they could sign a couple of free agents when things settle down. At the top of their list is a veteran wide receiver and a capable defensive lineman. The team will only consider big, physical receivers who can get off the line of scrimmage and run across the middle of the field. Defensive linemen who might be affordable are Tracy Scroggins, Regan Upshaw and Christian Peter among others. Injuries to DTs Santana Dotson and Steve Warren have created a hole at the position. The team is also in the market for another cornerback since they lack depth there.
