The Associated Press reports with the Cleveland Browns signing free agent DE Jamal Reynolds (Packers), the Green Bay Packers will take a 2004 salary cap hit of $633,750.

Cleveland Browns DL Jamal Reynolds (Packers) told ClevelandBrowns.com that he is completely healthy and looks forward to competing for a roster spot during training camp. "I think this is a great opportunity for me to join the Browns," Reynolds said. "I know many of the defensive linemen, including Courtney Brown, Gerard Warren and Orpheus Roye and I look forward to getting a chance to work with those guys. I am 100 percent healthy and look forward to getting on the field." Brown recently signed a two-year deal with the Browns after he was released from the Green Bay Packers. Prior to his release, Brown was traded from Green Bay to the Indianapolis Colts, but the deal was voided after he failed a physical.

Rick Braun, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports with the Green Bay Packers waiving DE Jamal Reynolds, the team gains his $455,000 base salary in cap room for 2004 and they also will be able to space the remaining $1.6 million of his signing bonus over the next two seasons unless another team claims Reynolds on waivers. If that happens, then the Packers again will have to take up the final two years of Reynolds' signing bonus on their 2004 salary cap.

Green Bay Packers DE Chukie Nwokorie (wrist) has a broken wrist and did not play Sunday, Jan. 4, in the NFC Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks. However, Nwokorie, a third-down pass rusher, has a chance to play Sunday, Jan. 11, in the NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Reynolds has not come close to reaching the potential expected from a player chosen tenth overall in the draft. He has been active for only five games in 2003 and has recorded only two solo tackles and two assists. He does not have a sack this season. "Our intentions were for him to play more and be active," defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said, "but it hasn't turned out that way, at this time, the way we wanted."

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers haven't given up complete hope on DE Jamal Reynolds, a former first-round draft pick. While DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila has assumed the role as the starter and the sack-king on the defensive line, Reynolds has now had a full-year to recover from knee surgery in Jan. of 2002. He appears to be quicker on the field, but his pass-rush skills still appear to be solely focused around his speed, which hasn't done well for him in the pros. "He's improved his body size and strength," head coach Mike Sherman said. "Now he has to become a complete pass rusher and develop the moves necessary to complement his speed."

The Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers DE Jamal Reynolds (knee surgery) was back on the field Wednesday for the first time since his knee surgery January 28. His return to football activity was basically a trial run in which he tested his knee in various non-contact drills. He was not permitted to take part in one-on-one pass drills. Reynolds felt his knee held up well. "Jamal Reynolds should be able to practice immediately," coach Mike Sherman said. "I'm going to try to practice them (all) twice a day. How much they do at practice (depends). I may give them a practice off if I feel they're lagging. For the most part, I'm going to try to keep them out there and monitor them."

Reynolds had surgery on the knee in January and is expected to be at full speed by training camp; whether he is ready for full-contact workouts by then is unknown.

Both sides would like a deal in place before the start of the team's training camp July 25.
