Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars may be interested in signing free agent DL Joe Johnson (Packers), although a move is not anticipated in the near future. "We have looked at the list," head coach Jack Del Rio said. "We have squeezed everything we can out of that list. It's not the time of year. Defensive ends just don't fall out of the sky."

Packers head coach Mike Sherman said Johnson was excused from the minicamp. Johnson is likely to be released after June 1 and the teams wants to guarantee he doesn't get injured at a team-sponsored workout.

Updating a previous report, Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers will release DE Joe Johnson. If the Packers wait until after June 1 to release Johnson, the team will be able to push some of his 2004 salary-cap charge into the future and gain $4 million in cap room. If they elect to release him before June 1, the Packers will gain about $700,000 with no future cap hits.
