Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers have reached an injury settlement with DT Cletidus Hunt. The team will pay their former defensive tackle's $1.25 million base salary for this season because of a torn rotator cuff suffered Aug. 4 on their practice field. Agent Jimmy Sexton indicated that the settlement, reached after extensive discussions with Packers vice president Andrew Brandt, was for $1.25 million. The Packers will have to count not only the ongoing $1.95 million charge for Hunt but also the $1.25 million for a total cap hit of $3.2 million.

Rob Demovsky, of PackersNews.com, reports former Green Bay Packers DT Cletidus Hunt might need surgery to repair a rotator cuff injury. If the surgery is required, Hunt is likely to file an injury grievance against the team. The Packers are monitoring the situation and have been in contact with Hunt's agent, Jimmy Sexton. General manager Ted Thompson said Thursday, Sept, 22, he wouldn't comment other than to say he believes Hunt was healthy when the Packers released him. NFL teams can't release a player who is injured unless they work out an injury settlement in which the team pays the player a pro-rated portion of his salary for the time he would have missed during the regular season. Reportedly the Cincinnati Bengals had concerns over Hunt's shoulder when he had a free agent visit there to weeks ago.

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers DT Cletidus Hunt could be on the bubble for a roster spot. If the Packers waive Hunt, they'd be free of his $1.25 million base salary but still would have to count $1.95 million for him against their cap this year. However, they'd have to swallow hard because the remaining $3.6 million of his prorated bonus money all would accelerate against their cap next year. If Hunt was in good health, there's no question he would be a better player than any other defensive tackle on the roster with the exception of DT Grady Jackson. His salary cap hit may be enough for the Packers to keep him on their final roster.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers C Mike Flanagan said he spoke to DT Cletidus Hunt by telephone last week about why he is not with the team and he expects Hunt will skip the entire minicamp, which ends Thursday, June 9, because of a dispute with management. Packers' general manager Ted Thompson, informed of Flanagan's comments, said only that, "I don't know anything about that." Hunt is playing under a lucrative contract, but a contract clause allows the Packers to cut his base salary by $250,000 if he does not work out at the team's facility a set number of days in the offseason. The last two seasons Hunt has lost $500,000 because of that clause.

Sherman said he believed no one from the organization had spoken to Hunt. Sherman, defensive coordinator Jim Bates and others have gone out of their way since the middle of last week to downplay Hunt's absence but it's clear his act has worn thin. "I wouldn't say that," Sherman said when asked if Hunt had perhaps sealed his fate in Green Bay with his latest no-show. "We'll just have to wait and see what transpires between now and (July)."

Head coach Mike Sherman said he's looking at several young players as possible replacements for him. "It's not a mandatory camp, but we expect him to be here," Sherman said. "He should have been here, and he wasn't here. So that's disappointing." Hunt missed the team's last minicamp because of a hamstring injury. Sherman added he has had no contact with Hunt recently.
