Head coach Tom Coughlin said Ponder was yanked from his kick return role Week 11because the return game needed a "jump-start." Coughlin said Wednesday, Nov. 23. "I haven't lost any confidence in Willie Ponder" and when asked if Ponder would be on the field on Sunday, Nov. 27, in Seattle, added "We'll see."

Sat, 03 Sep 2005 06:22:02 -0700 The Bergen Record reports New York Giants WR Willie Ponder helped police catch two suspects that robbed his apartment while he slept. Ponder was waking to the sound of his alarm clock at 7:20 a.m. when he saw a woman walking past his bedroom door. After realizing he'd been robbed and calling police, Ponder knocked on a tenant's door. When the neighbor came out and saw the burglars running with two bags toward the Howard Johnson's Motel, he realized he knew the woman as a former classmate at Clifton High School. Arriving moments later, officers discovered that a man and woman matching the thieves' description were staying in one of the rooms and, with Ponder in tow, set out to question them. Recovered in the hotel room were Ponder's diamond-encrusted Oklahoma state championship ring; an iPod music player; cellphone; keys; and $49 in cash. Officers also found a rubber band used to inject drugs that belonged to the woman, detective captain Robert Rowan said.

Ponder struggled in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 13. "I don't want to completely remove him from that duty. I want him to have some faith in there, it's a tough job. We've got three or four other guys we're looking at, too. Willie will always have to be, no matter whether he is or he isn't, the emergency back-up," said Coughlin.
