Buccaneers.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup RBs Earnest Graham, Derek Watson and Ian Smart are competing for their role with the team. The Buccaneers piled on 169 rushing yards in their first preseason game, but all three backs performed well enough that the team wasn't able to add more clarity to the group of backups. Head coach Jon Gruden said it's going to be a tough call for the team when they are forced to slim down their running backs.

Buccaneers.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said the team wanted to see if RB Ian Smart could handle blitzes and punishment during their first preseason game. "He certainly showed he could," Gruden noted. He had 10 carries for 35 yards while also catching two passes for six yards while alternating with other running backs. He was also given chances on punt and kickoff returns.
