Sean Jensen, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings RB Onterrio Smith is expected to start the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Sept. 20, since RB Michael Bennett (knee) is sidelined with a knee injury. Running backs Larry Ned and Mewelde Moore will be Smith's backups during the game.

Jason Williams, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings RB Larry Ned had 15 carries for a game-high 55 yards and caught three passes for 30 yards in the Thursday, Sept. 2, preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Ned also had a rushing and receiving TD in the contest. "Ned did a nice job," said Vikings head coach Mike Tice. "Larry Ned showed tonight that not only can he play great special teams for us, but if we were in a bind and something happens to another guy, Larry can go in there and run hard for us."

Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings FS Jack Brewer (pectoral) will miss the remainder of the season with a ruptured right pectoral after undergoing an MRI on Monday, Nov. 10. The team expects that he will have surgery within a week. Brewer was the team's special teams captain, and he led the team in special teams tackles last year. He has been slowed by injuries this year, missing three games before his latest season ending setback. CB Rhett Nelson or RB Larry Ned, both of whom are on the practice squad, are the top candidates to replace Brewer.

Bill Williamson, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings RB Larry Ned's chances of being the primary ball carrier took a hit Saturday, August 9 in the pre-season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ned followed up a poor scrimmage Tuesday, August 5 with a shaky performance against Jacksonville. Ned, who has struggled with his footwork recently, fumbled at the Jaguars' 3-yard line, and Jaguars DB Ike Charlton picked up the ball and returned it 97 yards for a touchdown.

The Union-Tribune's Jerry Magee reports agent Jack Bechta said Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago and Seattle are teams that have expressed some interest in his client, San Diego State RB Larry Ned. Ned propelled himself into a more favorable NFL Draft position by running 4.51 and 4.48 during the Aztecs Pro Day, according to Doug Hix, the running back's fitness coordinator. "Anybody who will make a thorough film study of him will find that he is a workhorse who can be an every-down back," said Bechta.
