"We never gave in to that, the players never gave in to that. I think when you look at the way the team is fighting, competing, you really should be proud of that. Former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio wasn't liked inside the team's facility the past couple of years, and there were many inside who felt once Del Rio got paid his big contract he lost the zest for being a head coach. According to sources, Del Rio was coming into the office later in the mornings most days and leaving early, which rubbed his staff the wrong way. It also rubbed the front office the wrong way.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' selection of QB Blaine Gabbert in the NFL Draft puts head coach Jack Del Rio's future at considerably greater risk. Del Rio, who was essentially given a playoff-or-else ultimatum by owner Wayne Weaver in January, will now have a much greater challenge this season to get the Jaguars into the postseason. The Jaguars gave up a second-round pick to acquire Gabbert, which means the team - barring another trade up - will forfeit two prime chances to beef up a poor defense.

"I think we pushed our young guys to the point where they didn't have anything left," Del Rio said. "I've got to do a better job getting my team ready to play their best in December. We got there because we pushed. But in pushing hard, they didn't have anything left at the end of the year."

Del Rio lashed out Monday, Oct. 11, at reports that suggested Sims-Walker is on the trading block. "I actually called out one of the people that was involved in some of that being spread because that's garbage," Del Rio said. "False, not credible and it's disappointing to see stuff like that just go out be thrown out there haphazardly without anybody checking any sources ... We like the way he's working. There are no issues here. There are some being manufactured outside the building."

"I never shy away from competition," Manuwai said. "When they run fourth-and-1 on my side, I love it. Some guys are afraid of it." Head coach Jack Del Rio was blunt when talking about Manuwai. "I think Vinny still has a ways to go. I think Vinny's working at it. He's got his weight down. He's trying, but he needs to play better. I think he knows that. He's working hard at it," Del Rio said.

"All of those things are manufactured," Del Rio told WJXT of Jacksonville. "The only thing I can tell you is I've been busy working on the Jaguars for 2010. We're busy at work, trying to build this thing strong."

Jones-Drew's contract expires after the 2009 season. Del Rio said, "I think Maurice is a great football player and an even better teammate. So I would like to have us get him done. There is a process that takes place where two sides try and get something done and we'll work at that privately to get that done and hopefully that'll be resolved shortly."

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars LB Mike Peterson was sent home Wednesday, Nov. 5, because of insubordination after Peterson talked back to head coach Jack Del Rio during a team meeting Monday, Nov. 3, according to sources. Peterson was one of the players Del Rio challenged about their performance in Week 9 during the meeting. Del Rio did not want anyone's feedback but Peterson challenged the coach about a specific play Del Rio had an issue with. Peterson was then excused from the meeting.
