Jeff Duncan, of the Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints will not offer tender offers to LB Phil Clarke, WR Wane McGarity and WR Robert Wilson. They'll all become unrestricted free agents.

The Times Picayune reports New Orleans Saints CB Fred Thomas limped off the field at Thursday's practice after twisting his right ankle. The ankle was taped, and Thomas returned to the field. Reserve DE Willie Whitehead, who has a sprained right medial collateral ligament, returned to practice after working on the side on his own Wednesday. WR Wane McGarity said he hadn't been told whether he will be activated for Sunday's game. If WR Robert Wilson (finger) is OUT, McGarity could be active.

The Times Picayune reports the New Orleans Saints reportedly contacted the Green Bay Packers about WRs Donald Driver and Bill Schroeder, before the Tuesday trading deadline. The Packers reportedly wanted rookie LB Sedrick Hodge, a third-round pick from North Carolina, in return. The Saints decided not to make the trade and instead signed free agent WR Wane McGarity.

Cowboys | Replacing McGarity

The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo said today WR Reggie Swinton will replace the released Wane McGarity in the lineup as a receiver and punt returner. WRs Darrin Chiaverini and Ken-Yon Rambo, both also new to the Cowboys since last season, will also get more opportunities to play. Owner Jerry Jones admitted McGarity's size and injuries were a factor in the decision to release him. Jones also said the release sends a message that the team is doing anything it can to improve now.

The Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys WR Wane McGarity will start Sunday against Philadelphia while Raghib Ismail recovers from a sprained right knee. The Cowboys are also going to give WRs Darrin Chiaverini, Reggie Swinton and Ken-Yon Rambo a chance to play against Philadelphia. Coach Dave Campo said the Cowboys will rotate each of those players opposite WR Joey Galloway.

The Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys WR Raghib Ismail will miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained ligament in his right knee. Ismail's injury puts more pressure on Joey Galloway. The injury also represents an opportunity for Wane McGarity, Darren Chiaverini, Reggie Swinton and Ken-Yon Rambo to prove they can be solid contributors. McGarity and Chiaverini will get the first opportunity at replacing Ismail.

The Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys DT Dimitrius Underwood, who suffers from a bipolar condition, was reportedly admitted to a local mental hospital on Friday. A source said Underwood was resting comfortably Friday at the hospital and was expected to be released Friday evening or Saturday morning. Teammate, WR Wane McGarity said Underwood called him Thursday seeking help. "He just sounded upset, and I tried to talk to him," McGarity said. Coach Dave Campo said Underwood was excused from practice Friday for personal reasons and he added he expected Underwood to play on Sunday.

DallasCowboys.com reports the Dallas Cowboys are expected to announce Tuesday morning having traded for Cleveland Browns WR Darren Chiaverini. The Cowboys are set to send the Browns a conditional seventh-round draft choice. Chiaverini likely will challenge Wane McGarity for the third-receiver spot on the nickel offense, and could bump either Damon Hodge or Jason Tucker off the roster.

Rachel Cohen reports for The Dallas Morning News Dallas Cowboys WR Wane McGarity, who suffered a sprained right ankle August 4 against Oakland, returned to practice on Tuesday as did WR Reggie Swinton, who missed Monday's workout with a sprained toe. WR Jason Tucker sat out the practice with tendinitis in his right Achilles' and he is now listed as day-to-day. TE Jackie Harris missed practice because of a family emergency.

The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys TE Chris Fontenot is expected to miss at least six weeks of action. He broke his left wrist during Saturday's pre-season game. WR Wane McGarity will miss 2-to-3 weeks with a high right ankle sprain. Rookie DE Colston Weatherington has the same injury as McGarity and the same projection for his return. DE Ebenezer Ekuban (right hip contusion) and G Al Jackson (right ankle and knee sprain) are listed as day-to-day.

WRs Joey Galloway and Raghib Ismail should gain their starting jobs back and Campo said there’s an interesting battle going on for the No. 3 slot. Campo said second year man Damon Hodge is quickly moving up the charts, but he has a long way to go to beat out third-year pros Jason Tucker, Chris Brazzell and Wane McGarity all vying for the Cowboys No. 3 receiver.

The Dallas Morning News reports if WR Carl Pickens retires from the Dallas Cowboys, it'll open up more opportunities for WRs Wane McGarity, Jason Tucker, Damon Hodge, Chris Brazzell, Bashir Yamini, Damon Dunn and Jermaine Copeland. The Cowboys are deep at wide receiver right now and probably won't keep any more than six receivers. Thus, only four spots would be open as starters Joey Galloway and Raghib Ismail are almost guaranteed roster spots this year.

The Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he expects restricted free agent S Izell Reese, LB Darren Hambrick and DT Michael Myers to report to the Cowboys voluntary quarterback school next week. Each has yet to sign their one-year, $512,000 tender offer. WR Wane McGarity said he is trying to become a receiver who can line up outside, not just in the slot.

The Star-Telegram reports Dallas Cowboys WR/punt returner Wane McGarity (ankle sprain) and TE Jackie Harris (knee sprain) both practiced Thursday and are expected to play Sunday. QB Randall Cunningham was added to the injury list Thursday as questionable for Sunday's game after missing practice for the second day in a row with a left groin strain. SS Darren Woodson (arm) likely won't play with a hairline fracture in his right forearm.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Dallas Cowboys WR Wane McGarity went down in practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury. The team believes he'll be ready to play this weekend. RB Emmitt Smith (concussion) went through practice with no reported problems and is expected to start against the Buccaneers this weekend. TE Jackie Harris (knee) missed practice for the second-straight day but is expected to return to practice on Thursday and play this weekend. He hopes his number will be called often against his former team this week.
