TE Cam Cleeland (ankle) did not practice, but he had his protective boot removed too. WR Robert Wilson (finger) is expected to play Sunday.

The Advocate reports New Orleans Saints backup CB Michael Hawthorne will miss one or two games because of a high ankle sprain suffered against the 49ers last week. CB Steve Israel (calf), WR Robert Wilson (finger) and TE Cam Cleeland (ankle) likely will be out again this week. Two starters, C Jerry Fontenot (stinger) and OT Willie Roaf (knee) are expected to be ready for Sunday.

The Times Picayune reports New Orleans Saints CB Fred Thomas limped off the field at Thursday's practice after twisting his right ankle. The ankle was taped, and Thomas returned to the field. Reserve DE Willie Whitehead, who has a sprained right medial collateral ligament, returned to practice after working on the side on his own Wednesday. WR Wane McGarity said he hadn't been told whether he will be activated for Sunday's game. If WR Robert Wilson (finger) is OUT, McGarity could be active.

The Sun Herald reports despite undergoing surgery for his broken finger earlier this week, New Orleans Saints WR Robert Wilson hopes to play Sunday. He'll test out his hand today with a soft cast to see if he might be able to play Sunday. Wilson is a vital member of the special teams and the team's No. 4 WR. Starting LT Willie Roaf (right knee) practiced again and was upgraded to probable. The Saints removed QB Aaron Brooks (right foot) from the injury list. Backup CB Steve Israel (calf) was added to the injury list as questionable. TE Cam Cleeland (ankle) did not practice again yesterday and his status for Sunday remains in doubt.

The Times Picayune reports New Orleans Saints WR Albert Connell is not happy about being demoted to the team's No. 4 WR spot, but he understands it. Robert Wilson replaced Connell in three-receiver sets against St. Louis and will keep the job for Sunday night's game against the New York Jets, coach Jim Haslett said. The Saints hope the recent demotion will serve as a wake-up call for the talented WR.

The Times Picayune reports New Orleans Saints GM Randy Mueller is looking to upgrade at WR, via trade, free agency or the waiver wire. Some possibilities include Kevin Johnson (Cleveland), Ron Dugans (Cincinnati), Jerry Porter (Oakland), Chris Cole (Denver), Dameane Douglas (Philadelphia) and Todd Pinkston (Philadelphia). Reportedly the Cleveland Browns are willing to deal Johnson, for a third-round draft pick. The Saints brass remains concerned over injured WRs Albert Connell and Joe Horn. Haslett said if the Saints are going to succeed this season, Horn, Albert Connell, Willie Jackson and Robert Wilson have to stay healthy and contribute consistently.

The Advocate reports in addition to the previously reported injury to DT Norman Hand, New Orleans Saints starting WRs Joe Horn (ribs) and Albert Connell (hamstring) were in uniform, but they did not play in tonight's game. They were replaced in the starting lineup by Robert Wilson and Willie Jackson. Also out tonight were: CB Kevin Mathis (knee), CB Steve Israel (quadriceps), TE Boo Williams (shoulder), DE Willie Whitehead (calf), G Blaine Saipaia (knee), G Albert Traylor (groin), and OT Damon Nivens (knee). Defensive line coach Sam Clancy was back on the Saints sideline after a quick recovery from a mild heart attack.

The Advocate reports the New Orleans Saints tendered their seven exclusive rights free agents on Thursday. Backup QB Jake Delhomme, LB Phil Clarke, TEs Lamont Hall and Dave Stachelski, OT Daryl Terrell, DE Willie Whitehead and WR Robert Wilson were given tenders. Stachelski was tendered at $298,000, while all the others were given $389,000 offers. OT Marcus Price, a restricted free agent, was not tendered a contract and thus he is now an unrestricted free agent.

Jeff Duncan reports for the Sporting News even though New Orleans Saints WR Joe Horn is expected to be listed as doubtful for Saturday's playoff game, his injury is more serious than first thought and at this time coaches do not expect him to play. If Horn can't play, Jake Reed and Willie Jackson will start at receiver with Robert Wilson as the #3 WR. The team is also hoping to have WR Keith Poole (concussion) back this week. CB Alex Molden is expected to play Saturday after suffering temporary numbness in his neck and shoulders following a head-on tackle in the first half against the Rams. The Times-Picayune reports New Orleans Saints FB Terrell Smith (back) missed practice again on Thursday and is doubtful for this weekend's game. If he can't play, Brian Milne would replace him again. WR Jake Reed (leg) practiced and will probably be the No. 4 receiver this weekend. He said he's still experiencing some pain. WR Robert Wilson (broken thumb) will try to play while wearing a cast that doesn't hinder his ability on special teams but catching the ball would be a problem.

The Times-Picayune reports the New Orleans Saints are considering giving WR Robert Wilson more playing time. He has eight receptions last week and has been serving as the team's No. 4 receiver. Head coach Jim Haslett said he's been very pleased with Wilson this year and stated they'll have to give him more playing time if he continues at his recent pace. Wilson said he and QB Aaron Brooks have a chemistry together because they've spent so much time working together this year on the Saints' practice team.
