The team will need a dependable backup running back behind RB Fred Jackson while RB Marshawn Lynch is serving a three-game suspension. The Bills may also consider selecting a running back in the NFL Draft.

Lynch is expected to appeal the suspension.
Wed, 08 Apr 2009 18:36:41 -0700 Michael Smith, of ESPN.com, reports NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Buffalo Bills RB Marshawn Lynch for the first three games of the 2009 season for violating the league's personal conduct policy, according to sources. An official announcement could come as soon as Thursday, April 9, but Lynch is expected to appeal the suspension. Lynch will lose approximately $112,000 of his $635,000 base salary for 2009 during the suspension. Lynch was arrested near Los Angeles Feb. 11 and later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge.

The team already has a capable backup in RB Fred Jackson, so it may be difficult to sign Taylor if he thinks he's going to be the third wheel in the Bills' backfield. If the Bills were to convince Taylor to sign, it could trigger an attempt to trade Lynch.

According to police detective Ryan Thompson, Lynch was charged Thursday, Feb. 19, with possessing a concealed, loaded and unregistered firearm. Lynch's arraignment is scheduled for March 3.
