The Associated Press reports Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Greg Blache was perturbed at Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick’s comments that Blache told his players to “take out his knees” in last Sunday’s game. Vick was angered that Blache apparently wanted to injure Vick, and his sentiments were backed up by teammate WR Willie Jackson. Blache was equally as angered by Vick’s comments. He said he meant the best way to tackle him was to take him out by the knees, but didn’t mean to intentionally hurt him. “He got his butt beat and now he wants to make someone look bad,” Blache said. “Unbelievable.”

Updating recent reports, ESPN.com’s Len Pasquarelli reports WR Willie Jackson’s deal with the Atlanta Falcons is a three-year deal worth $3.5 million and he received a $350,000 signing bonus. His base salaries are $650,000 (2002), $1.1 million (2003) and $1.2 million (2004). $250,000 of his base salary this year is guaranteed. There are also workout bonuses of $100,000 in 2003 and 2004.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and free agent WR Willie Jackson (Saints) continue. In fact, Jackson could be edging closer to signing a deal with the 49ers. "We've had ongoing discussions," Jackson's agent, Joel Segal, said. "The 49ers are a priority for Willie due to the quarterback, the great tradition and his brother being there." If Jackson were to sign, he would presumably compete with WR J.J. Clark Judge reports for Fox Sports free agent WR Willie Jackson (Saints) reportedly turned down a two-year offer valued at an estimated $1.4 million annually from the 49ers. The 49ers haven't responded, refusing to negotiate further and looking beyond Jackson. "If it works out," said a source close to the team, "it's because Willie Jackson came back to the 49ers." Jackson wants to be a go-to receiver with an East Coast team. Some of the names on the radar could be Green Bay's Antonio Freeman, Jacksonville's Keenan McCardell, Detroit's Herman Moore and Kansas City's Derrick Alexander. Coach Steve Spurrier has said he is happy with the WRs he has, so adding a free agent is not definite. The decision could be based upon how much salary cap space the Redskins have to work with.
