Jacksonville Jaguars WR J.J. Stokes was active for the Sunday, Oct. 26, game against the Tennessee Titans after being inactive the previous two weeks. He replaced WR Matthew Hatchette, who was inactive. Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said the two players will continue to vie for an active spot depending on which one looks better in practice.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matthew Hatchette (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury Sunday, Sept. 7 against the Carolina Panthers, although he returned to the game. Hatchette's shoulder was sore Monday, Sept. 8 and was wrapped in ice. Hatchette hopes to play Sunday, Sept. 14 against the Buffalo Bills.

Updating previous reports, the Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matthew Hatchette will start in Saturday's, Aug. 23, game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "Hatchette has gotten a chance and done well with it," head coach Jack Del Rio said. "He's also the first receiver to get healthy, get back on the field and have a good week of practice, so we're going to give him an opportunity."

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matthew Hatchette knows he has a good opportunity to shine now that fellow WR Jimmy Smith has been suspended for the first four games of the 2003 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Hatchette has set high goals for himself this season. "I think the sky's the limit for me," Hatchette said. "I set my goals high. I don't want to just be in the NFL. My goals are really high."

Head coach Jack Del Rio said Stokes "is beginning to separate himself a little bit" from competitors WRs Donald Hayes, Matthew Hatchette, and Kevin Lockett. "There are some things that J.J. is doing more consistently than some of the other guys. If I had to pick a guy right now, J.J. is who I'd pick."

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed WR Matthew Hatchette to a one-year deal worth $555,000, including a $25,000 signing bonus. Hatchette, 29, has played for the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets in his career. He led NFL Europe with 61 receptions for 790 yards and 7 touchdowns this spring.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings are expected to sign free agent WR Matthew Hatchette in time for the start of training camp. Because the former Viking Hatchette is an NFL Europe free agent, not allocated by an NFL team, he will be free to sign anywhere when the NFL Europe season ends later this month.

According to Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Vikings are not interested in bringing WR Matthew Hatchette back to the team. The Vikings lost Hatchette to the New York Jets via free agency last year and he's likely to be released by the Jets this year.

The Bergen Record's Randy Lange reports New York Jets WR Matthew Hatchette, who played four offensive snaps (all running plays) over the last eight games, said he was disappointed with his first season as a Jet and unsure if he'll be back. "Everybody else makes the decisions, so you're asking the wrong person. Do I want to come back as a fifth or sixth receiver? No, I do not," said Hatchette.

Newsday.com reports New York Jets WR Matthew Hatchette has been the biggest disappointment for the Jets this year. He has just two catches for 44 yards this year, and currently does not have a role in the offense. When WR Santana Moss (knee) returns, the team may have a hard time having Hatchette active on Sunday's because he doesn't play special teams.

Rich Cimini reports for the New York Daily News changes could be afoot at WR for the New York Jets. Wayne Chrebet will be back from his concussion this week, rookie Santana Moss (knee) is close to coming back, Windrell Hayes has been released and Matthew Hatchette may be moved to flanker from split end. Rookie QB Tory Woodbury, known as a "Slash" type player, will get a shot at split end. The Jets have avoided putting a return date out there for Moss, but on Monday, coach Herman Edwards, encouraged by the progress in the rookie's rehabilitation, speculated for the first time, indicating that Moss might be able to play as early as November 18 in Miami. Moss said he won't play until his knee is as good as new.
