D. Orlando Ledbetter, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports former NFL DT Shane Dronett was found dead in his home Wednesday, Jan. 21. Gwinnett County (Ga.) police said they responded to a suicide call at Dronett's address. The medical examiner's office is investigating the case. Dronett had a brain tumor that required surgery in the past year, according to former teammates and coaches from the University of Texas. KFFL sends their condolences to his family and friends.

Updating previous stories, Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com, reports the Atlanta Falcons have released DT Shane Dronett. The team will save $3.3 million, but he will still count $1.4 million against the cap for 2003.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Atlanta Falcons DL Shane Dronett (torn ligament in his left shoulder) is likely out for the entire 2002 season. He may go on the injured reserve list. "I wasn't sure what the Falcons decision was going to be," said Dronett. "They called today. I was planning to be there. They said don't bother. I'm pretty devastated about it." He was injured lifting weights in June.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Atlanta Falcons are expected to look for some salary cap room from DTs Travis Hall and Shane Dronett. The team is expected to ask one, or perhaps both, to restructure their contracts to help save some room under the salary cap this year. The Falcons are about $8 million over the 2002 salary cap.

The Atlanta Journal Consititution reports Atlanta Falcons DT Shane Dronett (left shoulder), CB Ray Buchanan (right knee) and RB Maurice Smith (right knee) are scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery soon. More players may also have to undergo surgery soon.

AtlantaFalcons.com reports QB Chris Chandler (elbow), DT Shane Dronett (knee), TE Reggie Kelly (ribs), C Todd McClure (foot) and T Ephraim Salaam (knee/ankle) all missed practice Friday and look to be OUT for Sunday's game. McClure is officially OUT, while Chandler, Dronett, Kelly and Salaam remain doubtful. As previously reported, rookie QB Mike Vick gets the start Sunday at QB.
