SS Steve Gregory pressed Hart for the job, but the stomach flu caused him to miss four practices and a game. Hart said, "I believe I'm the strong safety, and that's the way I look at it."

Hart feels the Chargers have lost a little confidence in him during certain situations. "It's up to me to gain it back," he noted. He is working as a backup in sub packages, as S Steve Gregory is ahead of him and rookie S Kevin Ellison isn't far behind him. Defensive coordinator Ron Rivera acknowledged Hart is in a competition for playing time.
