Cardinals | Yadier Molina proving his health

Tue, 17 May 2016 14:58:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is in the midst of one of his finest offensive seasons since 2013, when he finished third in the voting for National League Most Valuable Player. Molina hit his 12th double Sunday, May 15, and is on pace for 51. His .333 average ranks seventh in the NL, and he has 16 RBI. Molina is surprised with his production after dealing with a thumb injury throughout spring training. He has started 34 of the team's first 38 games. Molina has yet to hit a home run, but the improved strength in his hand is showing.

Fantasy Tip: Molina has surprised many and has been a great value at the catcher position as a solid No. 1 starter in all fantasy formats. The power was already in decline before this year, and any long balls you get from him are icing on the cake.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 15 May 2016 14:59:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is not starting Sunday, May 15, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. C Eric Fryer is batting eighth against Dodgers SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Molina is out due to the left. vs. left matchup, so he gets the night off (or most of it, anyway). Fryer is a .538 hitter this season (7-for-13), so if you are looking for a low-cost flyer on your fantasy team he may not be bad. Fryer also isn't a bad option as a "handcuff" player in deeper leagues in case Molina gets hurt.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina tough to strike out

Fri, 13 May 2016 15:41:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina has gone 43 straight plate appearances without a strikeout, which is the second longest streak in baseball.

Fantasy Tip: The power has disappeared (no home runs), but Molina is making plenty of contact good enough for a .336 average (41-for-122) on the season. His owners can't complain given how wrist injuries have really set Molina back the last several seasons offensively. He appears to be fully healthy and is a solid No. 1 fantasy catcher in all leagues.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina starting at 1B

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:43:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina will start at first base against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Wednesday, May 4, and 1B Matt Adams and 1B Brandon Moss will start on the bench against a left-handed pitcher. C Eric Fryer will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Molina is hitting .333 with 10 RBI this season and should be a starting candidate in all leagues. Fryer is hitting .667 in his limited playing time and could be sleeper option for daily fantasy owners.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina extends to 11

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 16:15:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina extended his hitting streak to 11 games Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Molina isn't doing damage, but he's hitting .341 on the season. He only hit four homers last season and didn't hit his first one until June. You probably can't expect much more than that from him this season, but he remains a midrange catcher option.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina sitting vs. Nats

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:18:41 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. C Eric Fryer is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Beside sitting without a home run, it has been an excellent start for Molina. He has a .333/.422/.436 slash line with 10 RBI and is a sound starting option in all fantasy formats. You'll want to replace the workhorse backstop where you can Friday, though. Fryer should be viewed as a desperation flier against Strasburg Friday.

Cardinals | Yadi Molina has hits in nine straight

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:53:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina went 1-for-3 with a double and two walks Wednesday, April 27, against the Arizona Diamondbacks to push his hitting streak to nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Molina is hitting .367 (11-for-30) during his impressive nine-game streak. After an injury-plagued 2015, he has re-emerged as a top-notch fantasy receiver across all formats.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina hitting well

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 07:15:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is hitting .400 with three RBI the last seven games and .338 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: His power stroke isn't there, but he has five doubles. He fell pretty late in a lot of drafts after his thumb injury made him questionable for the start of the season. Don't expect 15 homers, but he's a solid upper-middle catcher.

Cardinals | St. Louis resting five players

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:56:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker, OF Matt Holliday, C Yadier Molina, 2B Kolten Wong and SS Aledmys Diaz are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Jon Moscot Sunday, April 17. 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and is batting second. 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and is batting sixth. SS Greg Garcia is starting at shortstop and is batting seventh, while C Eric Fryer starting at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Fryer and Garcia have played well early this season but probably should not be options in most leagues. Moss, Adams and Gyorko could be used in daily fantasy leagues.
