Cardinals | Yadier Molina starting at 1B

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:43:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina will start at first base against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Wednesday, May 4, and 1B Matt Adams and 1B Brandon Moss will start on the bench against a left-handed pitcher. C Eric Fryer will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Molina is hitting .333 with 10 RBI this season and should be a starting candidate in all leagues. Fryer is hitting .667 in his limited playing time and could be sleeper option for daily fantasy owners.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina extends to 11

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 16:15:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina extended his hitting streak to 11 games Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Molina isn't doing damage, but he's hitting .341 on the season. He only hit four homers last season and didn't hit his first one until June. You probably can't expect much more than that from him this season, but he remains a midrange catcher option.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina sitting vs. Nats

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:18:41 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. C Eric Fryer is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Beside sitting without a home run, it has been an excellent start for Molina. He has a .333/.422/.436 slash line with 10 RBI and is a sound starting option in all fantasy formats. You'll want to replace the workhorse backstop where you can Friday, though. Fryer should be viewed as a desperation flier against Strasburg Friday.

Cardinals | Yadi Molina has hits in nine straight

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:53:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina went 1-for-3 with a double and two walks Wednesday, April 27, against the Arizona Diamondbacks to push his hitting streak to nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Molina is hitting .367 (11-for-30) during his impressive nine-game streak. After an injury-plagued 2015, he has re-emerged as a top-notch fantasy receiver across all formats.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina hitting well

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 07:15:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina is hitting .400 with three RBI the last seven games and .338 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: His power stroke isn't there, but he has five doubles. He fell pretty late in a lot of drafts after his thumb injury made him questionable for the start of the season. Don't expect 15 homers, but he's a solid upper-middle catcher.

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:56:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker, OF Matt Holliday, C Yadier Molina, 2B Kolten Wong and SS Aledmys Diaz are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Jon Moscot Sunday, April 17. 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and is batting second. 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and is batting sixth. SS Greg Garcia is starting at shortstop and is batting seventh, while C Eric Fryer starting at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Fryer and Garcia have played well early this season but probably should not be options in most leagues. Moss, Adams and Gyorko could be used in daily fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina out again

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 05:36:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina (toe) is out of the lineup Tuesday, March 29, with a bruised toe.

Fantasy Tip: Molina is a midrange catcher option in fantasy. He doesn't have a lot of spring at-bats, so he may be up against it at the start of the season.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina has bruised foot

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 10:28:52 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina (foot) has a right foot contusion and is listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: At least it's not related to his wrist. Still, it's another reminder that the aging backstop just hasn't been able to stay healthy the last two years, and it's affected his plate skills, mainly his power. There isn't any upside left offensively here, so Molina is best served as a second catcher in two-catcher leagues, at best.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina appears ready

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 10:00:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina (thumb) appears ready for the season opener, but manager Mike Matheny declined to confirm he'll start the season opener. The strength is there in Molina's thumb, and he feels comfortable hitting every day. "He's ready," Matheny said. "We will continue to monitor strength and keep testing him, but right now everything is in a good spot."

Fantasy Tip: Molina is a midrange catching option in fantasy.
