Former NFL players Jamal Lewis, Dorsey Levens, Fulton Kuykendall and Ryan Stewart say in a federal lawsuit that brain injuries have left them struggling with medical problems years after their playing days ended. The players filed the lawsuit against the National Football League and FNL Properties LLC this week in U.S. District Court in Atlanta. The players maintain the NFL knew as early as the 1920s of the potential for concussions to harm its players. They argue the league concealed the dangers from coaches, trainers, players and the public until June 2010, when it publicly acknowledged the health threats and warned players and teams.

Todd Rosiak, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers signed free agent RB Dorsey Levens (Eagles) so that he can officially retire Friday, June 2, as a member of the team with which he began his National Football League career. General manager Ted Thompson confirmed the transaction late Thursday afternoon, June 1, through a team spokesman.

He recently visited with the Packers. Levens, 35, said he still works out but not as much as he used to.

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles may soon be in the market for a running back due to the uncertain health status of RB Correll Buckhalter (knee), who is scheduled to have his ailing knee reexamined in the next few days. With Buckhalter sidelined, the Eagles do not have a tailback taller than 5-foot-10 or heavier than 212 pounds. One possible replacement for Buckhalter could be free agent RB Dorsey Levens, who has had two previous stints with the Eagles.
