The Associated Press reports the New York Jets have signed veteran DT Steve Martin, just released by the Chiefs. He helps to fill the gap left by the injury to Jason Ferguson. He signed a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum of $477,000, with incentives that could increase the salary to $625,000. Martin will be a backup to seventh-round draft choice James Reed, currently the team's starter. The Jets chose Martin rather than several other veterans, including Tim Morabito, who was cut by Carolina, and former Jet Ernie Logan. The team did not bring in Russell Maryland as expected. New York also claimed LB Jason Glenn off waivers from Detroit. The team cut DT Maurice Anderson and placed Ferguson on injured reserve to free the needed roster spots.
