Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria (foot) has plantar fasciitis in his right foot and may serve as designated hitter throughout this weekend. He's doing so Friday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: This is just something he'll have to play through, unless it really debilitates him. Sometimes this can affect play, depending on its severity. Keep an eye out, but you should start making plans just in case he needs an extended absence. Considering Longo's recent injury history, don't write it off. It'd probably be a mix of Kelly Johnson, who's starting Friday, and Ryan Roberts, among others, at the hot corner in his stead.

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Kelly Johnson (back) sat out his second straight game with back problems Thursday, June 6, but manager Joe Maddon doesn't think Johnson's injury will linger. Johnson was available to pinch hit.

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said he will keep 2B Kelly Johnson in the second spot in the order for the forseeable future. Johnson has lowered his hands at the plate so they're in a better position for him to bring them back before starting his swing. Johnson can now create momentum before he makes contact with the ball.

The Tampa Bay Rays designated INFs Reid Brignac and Elliot Johnson for assignment Tuesday, Feb. 5, to make room on the roster for RP Kyle Farnsworth and 2B Kelly Johnson. One more roster spot must be cleared when OF Luke Scott's contract is finalized. Both players are expected to clear waivers.
