The two sides talked twice on Tuesday and it appears the Packers want Thierry to return at a cheaper price in 2002. He's scheduled to make $2.5 million in 2002 and has a $500,000 roster bonus coming in March.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports some potential candidates for the Green Bay Packers expansion list are DT Santana Dotson, DE John Thierry, WR Antonio Freeman, RB Dorsey Levens and C Frank Winters. Dotson attended Baylor University in Houston, lives in Houston in the off-season and would be an ideal statesman for the expansion team. Asked if he would be upset if the Packers put him on the list, Dotson said no although he added he was happy being with the Packers. Dotson and Winters could not be on the list together because both have played 10 or more years.

The Packers might continue to rotate Rivera and RT Mark Tauscher at left guard and play Earl Dotson at right tackle. CB/KR Allen Rossum (knee) fielded kicks today, but did not practice with the defensive backs. Coach Mike Sherman said he wouldn't let Rossum play unless he was certain he could help the Packers win. Brown was able to do limited work on Thursday and is being evaluated daily. Rossum did some running on Wednesday and the team is hopeful he'll play this weekend. Thierry is getting a lot better, but remains a game day decision. Sherman said LBs Na'il Diggs and K.D. Williams might be up for this weekend's game due to team injury problems.

DT Gilbert Brown (toe) is trying to do more and more each day but the team will likely decide his fate on Saturday. CB/PR Allen Rossum (knee) has a decent chance to return punts this weekend. He's testing his injury today but probably won't see any time in the secondary this week. DE John Thierry (knee) will also test his injury and may be able to return this weekend.
