The Green Bay News-Chronicle reports the Green Bay Packers have approached DL John Thierry's agent, Richard De Luca, about renegotiating his contract. The two sides talked twice on Tuesday and it appears the Packers want Thierry to return at a cheaper price in 2002. He's scheduled to make $2.5 million in 2002 and has a $500,000 roster bonus coming in March.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports some potential candidates for the Green Bay Packers expansion list are DT Santana Dotson, DE John Thierry, WR Antonio Freeman, RB Dorsey Levens and C Frank Winters. Dotson attended Baylor University in Houston, lives in Houston in the off-season and would be an ideal statesman for the expansion team. Asked if he would be upset if the Packers put him on the list, Dotson said no although he added he was happy being with the Packers. Dotson and Winters could not be on the list together because both have played 10 or more years.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers DE John Thierry will have surgery Wednesday to repair torn cartilage in his knee. It will be the fourth surgery for Thierry in less than 12 months, one to each knee and one to each shoulder.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman said DE John Thierry (knee) underwent more tests on Monday morning. They continued to show he just has a strained MCL. He may be able to return in two weeks, but the team does not expect him to play this weekend. OLB Nate Wayne (back) will try to practice on Wednesday. Depending on how he does that day, the team will then further evaluate his status for this weekend's game. Sherman is hopeful he'll be able to return to the field.

Thierry will wear a brace on his right knee. LB Rob Holmberg will start for Chris Gizzi who is on IR and gone for the season. Rookie LB Torrance Marshall returns to his backup role.

Michael Cunningham reports for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Green Bay Packers LG Marco Rivera might get a smaller cast for his broken left hand this week. The Packers might continue to rotate Rivera and RT Mark Tauscher at left guard and play Earl Dotson at right tackle. CB/KR Allen Rossum (knee) fielded kicks today, but did not practice with the defensive backs. Coach Mike Sherman said he wouldn't let Rossum play unless he was certain he could help the Packers win. NT Gilbert Brown (toe) and DE John Thierry (knee) participated fully in practice Wednesday. LB Nate Wayne (back/questionable) did not practice Wednesday and appears to be a long shot to play on Sunday. TE Bubba Franks (ankle) and OT Earl Dotson (calf) both sat out practice today.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman said DT Gilbert Brown (toe), CB Allen Rossum (knee) and DE John Thierry (knee) are all game-time decisions this weekend. Brown was able to do limited work on Thursday and is being evaluated daily. Rossum did some running on Wednesday and the team is hopeful he'll play this weekend. Thierry is getting a lot better, but remains a game day decision. Sherman said LBs Na'il Diggs and K.D. Williams might be up for this weekend's game due to team injury problems.

Michael Cunningham reports for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Green Bay Packers DT Gilbert Brown (turf toe) returned to practice Thursday after missing the previous day. He practiced with the first team defense, but did not participate in individual drills. He remains questionable for Sunday. DE John Thierry (knee) missed practice for the second straight day. CB/PR Allen Rossum (knee) ran and fielded punts for the second straight day Thursday. The team is still not certain of his status for Sunday. WR Robert Ferguson (hamstring) practiced for the second straight day and appears healthy enough to return punts. However, the team may not be able to have him active Sunday.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman said WR Robert Ferguson (hamstring) did some running this morning but the team is playing it by ear on his status for this weekend's game. DT Gilbert Brown (toe) is trying to do more and more each day but the team will likely decide his fate on Saturday. CB/PR Allen Rossum (knee) has a decent chance to return punts this weekend. He's testing his injury today but probably won't see any time in the secondary this week. DE John Thierry (knee) will also test his injury and may be able to return this weekend.
