Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins WR Kendall Newson (knee) is due to have another knee surgery in October to repair his torn right ACL after an earlier surgery to repair his patella tendon. Despite the surgeries, Newson is confident he will return for the 2006 season. ''I'm thinking I'll be ready by next March or April,'' Newson said Thursday, Sept. 22. "Things have gone really well so far so I have to be optimistic."

WRs J.R. Tolver, Sam Simmons, Marvin Minnis and Kendall Newson (Achilles) will receive significant playing time as injuries have decimated the position. ''We're going to see how those young guys react when the lights come on, and [we will] make a decision from there,'' Spielman said. "We want to see how they respond to game situations, when the pace is quicker and the stakes are higher, to make our final decision.'' Newson caught 26 passes for 437 yards and four touchdowns, but he made his biggest impact on special teams, leading the league in kickoff (28.7 yards) and punt (17.2 yards) return average. He had two returns for touchdowns.
