Simmons said he will play through the pain after being advised that surgery to correct the injury would sideline him for the entire season.

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins' young wide receivers have a great opportunity to make an impression in the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, Aug. 14. WRs J.R. Tolver, Sam Simmons, Marvin Minnis and Kendall Newson (Achilles) will receive significant playing time as injuries have decimated the position. ''We're going to see how those young guys react when the lights come on, and [we will] make a decision from there,'' Spielman said. "We want to see how they respond to game situations, when the pace is quicker and the stakes are higher, to make our final decision.'' That final decision includes whether to add a proven receiver in the free agent market or make a trade to solidify the position.
