The Miami Marlins optioned OF Bryan Peterson to Triple-A New Orleans Thursday, March 29, and assigned P J.D. Martin and INF Nick Green to minor league camp. OF Aaron Rowand was released. OFs Chris Coghlan and Austin Kearns look to have spots on the 25-man roster.

Ps Jose Alvarez, Robert Delaney, Chad Gaudin, Gary Glover, Chad James, Corey Madden, J.D. Martin, Rob Rasmussen, Robert Ray, Alejandro Ramos and Elih Villanueva, Cs Jake Jefferies, Luke Montz, Clint Sammons and Kyle Skipworth, INFs Nick Green, Donovan Solano, Terry Tiffee and Gil Velazquez and OFs Kyle Jensen and Aaron Rowand will participate in camp.

The Miami Marlins signed free-agent SS Nick Green (Rangers) to a minor-league deal Tuesday, Dec. 13, and they invited him to spring training. He will compete for a utility job.

Baltimore Orioles 2B Brian Roberts (back) received "trigger-point injections" in his back Friday, March 11, and is expected to undergo an MRI exam Saturday, March 12, according to The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that Roberts will be out until at least Tuesday, March 15. "He's got a lot of tests from previous times that we are able to compare it to, and there wasn't any real red flags today," Showalter said. "So we'll see how he plays in the next day or two but will probably let it quiet down for at least two or three days." Roberts has only played in four spring contests. IFs Cesar Izturis, Ryan Adams, Robert Andino, Brendan Harris and Nick Green can all play second base.

Padres | Ryan Ludwick acquired in three-team deal

The San Diego Padres have acquired OF Ryan Ludwick from the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-team deal which also involved the Cleveland Indians, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Cardinals received SP Jake Westbrook from the Indians while P Nick Greenwood went from the Padres to the Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Ludwick moves to the worst hitter's park in the bigs, but he wasn't in a helpful environment in St. Louis anyway. His value doesn't change that much - he's still a capable run-producing mixed league outfielder. This opens up time for Jon Jay to stay in the Cards lineup, making him an OK deep mixed rental.Westbrook moves to a better situation, with Dave Duncan as his pitching coach. Westbrook, a grounder-friendly pitcher already, might be worth occasional deep mixed use for the rest of the season. NL-only FAABers should take a stab.
