Chargers | Harbaugh a Top Choice

Fri, 26 Feb 1999 21:45:00 -0800

XTRA and KFMB are reporting the Chargers are making Jim Harbaugh their top choice to be their QB next year. They have talked about a two-year contract with him. The team has put Warren Moon and John Friesz on the back burner so they can attempt to make a trade for Harbaugh. Last week the Chargers had said that Moon was the team's number one priority they wanted to sign. But after they met a few weeks ago with Moon he wanted to shop around a little more. This did not sit well with the Chargers. While Moon was looking at other teams Baltimore gave Harbaugh's agent the go ahead to talk to other teams about a trade, and San Diego was his first choice. It is not known what it would cost San Diego to trade for him as Baltimore would like to acquire another QB before trading Harbaugh. The Chargers have now said that it will probably be sometime next week before anything is done. San Diego still plans to bring in Mark Rypien next week.
