Redskins | Brown Trying to Make it at Wide Receiver |
Wed, 03 Aug 2005 20:48:30 -0700
Chris Errington, of the Potomac News, reports Washington Redskins WR Antonio Brown wants to make the team as a return specialist and as a wide receiver. While he knows it's with the Redskins where his best opportunity to remain in the NFL lies, it's the chance to compete at wide receiver that motivates him most. "This is just a great opportunity for me to play here," Brown said. "I know the punt return spot is open and that Santana (Moss) is a great returner and I can learn a lot from him, but I'm more interested in learning about being a wide receiver from him. I think I bring something different to this team that can make us better." If impressing the Redskins' coaching staff is priority one, Brown can consider the mission nearly accomplished. "A guy like that, at that size, if he can run back a kick in this league, he can play anything else," Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs said. "To run back a kick probably takes as much courage as anything in sports. It's good to have depth at punt returner and I'd say Antonio is going to take a lot of it, but I also like him very much as a receiver."

Redskins | A. Brown Drawing Praise |
Mon, 20 Jun 2005 05:26:47 -0700
Jody Foldesy, of the Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins WR Antonio Brown has been drawing the praise of the team's coaching staff. He is in line for kick return duties and perhaps even some snaps on offense. Brown possesses unbelievable speed but thinks he is much more than just a runner, an opinion head coach Joe Gibbs shares. "He's got to be one of the faster guys in the league. But you can be fast, but if you're not a good football guy, it's not going to do you any good. I think he's a football guy," said Gibbs.

Redskins | Return of the Speedy Smurfs |
Sun, 19 Jun 2005 15:14:52 -0700
Joseph White, of the Associated Press, reports the Washington Redskins receiving corps has been creating quite a buzz at practice. Newcomer WRs Santana Moss, David Patten and Kevin Dyson join incumbent WRs James Thrash, Antonio Brown and Taylor Jacobs for a unit that could win quite a few relay races at the local track. "We've probably got the fastest receiver corps in the NFL," RB Clinton Portis said. Head coach Joe Gibbs hopes that speed will help generate the deep passing game that was missing last year. It is also a small in height corps, Dyson is the only one of the six over 6 feet tall. "We're pretty fast. But we don't feel like that. We feel like we're underdogs," Patten said, responding to talk the Redskins would once again miss the playoffs.
