Scott Boras, the agent for free-agent C Ivan Rodriguez (Nationals), said "a lot of teams" are interested in signing his client this winter. Boras' other two clients that played for the Washington Nationals last year, OFs Rick Ankiel and Jerry Hairston Jr., are also receiving interest. The New York Mets have considered Ankiel. However, the Nationals are clearly searching for a center fielder and may opt to re-sign Ankiel.

Washington Nationals C Ivan Rodriguez made his first start Saturday, Sept. 24, in more than two and a half months. He missed two months due to an oblique injury, and has been the backup to C Wilson Ramos when healthy. "Sometimes, you have to understand that Wilson is having a great year. He is the catcher of the team and he needs to play," Rodriguez said.

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson is planning to give the ball to SP Stephen Strasburg for the season finale against the Florida Marlins Wednesday, Sept. 28, barring inclement weather. It will be his fifth start since coming back from Tommy John surgery. Johnson also said C Ivan Rodriguez will catch the final game.
