Thu, 25 May 2006 13:55:40 -0700 The Associated Press reports San Francisco Giants OF Abraham Nunez was suspended 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug while in the minors. The 29-year-old Nunez has played for the Florida Marlins and the Kansas City Royals. He was hitting .223 with six homers and 29 RBI at Triple-A Fresno this year. Nunez is not to be confused with Philadelphia Phillies 3B Abraham O. Nunez, who played with the St. Louis Cardinals last season.
Wed, 17 May 2006 22:40:18 -0700 The Associated Press reports Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel replaced starting 3B David Bell with reserve 3B Abraham Nunez, who had just 42 at-bats coming in. He went 0-for-4 and saw his average drop to .196. Manuel said Nunez needs to see more pitches to be a sharper pinch hitter. "Pinch hitting is hard to do when you don't play much, but it's even harder if you don't play at all," Manuel said. Bell himself pinch-hit in the ninth inning and walked.
