Former Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers manager Ken Macha has expressed interest in the Toronto Blue Jays' managerial vacancy but the interest does not appear to be mutual. "I've applied for the job, sent off my resume, it would be an honor to be considered for the job," he said. "I haven't had an interview from one team (hiring a manager) this offseason."

Brewers | John Axford, Trevor Hoffman to split save chances |
Sun, 08 Aug 2010 16:07:07 -0700
Milwaukee Brewers RP John Axford and RP Trevor Hoffman will split save opportunities, reports Adam McCalvy, of MLB.com. Manager Ken Macha said, "The thing with Hoffman is he's earned his way back to saving games. If you're going to stay with the premise that the players write the lineup and things like that, he's put his name back in there. That's not to eliminate Axford from doing things, too, because he's done nothing to write his name out." Macha has not ruled out using Axford in the seventh and eighth innings to act as a bridge to Hoffman in the ninth innings. Macha could also use Axford for multiple-inning save chances and to protect one- or two-run leads, with Hoffman pitching when the team has multiple-run leads or when Axford needs a break.
Fantasy Tip: Hoffman should be acquired in all leagues, even if he is a part-time closer. If you're competing in saves, every little bit helps. As for Axford owners, hang tight.
