Nationals | Bronson Arroyo signs with Nats

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 23:32:19 -0800

Free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Dodgers) signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals Tuesday, Jan. 26, and he received an invitation to spring training. He will receive a $2 million base salary with a chance to earn up to $8 million if he makes 32 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo could be a nice rebound candidate for fantasy owners in 2016 if he has a strong spring and makes the rotation for the contending Nationals.

Reds | Bronson Arroyo meeting with Cincinnati

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 13:45:11 -0800

Free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Diamondbacks) was recently spotted at Great American Ballpark, and speculation is he has bought a house in the Cincinnati area.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo may be ready for a reunion with the Reds, where he pitched from 2006 to 2013. Still, be careful. Arroyo has not pitched since 2014 and he is coming off Tommy John surgery.

MLB | Seven teams interested in Bronson Arroyo

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 09:47:40 -0800

Free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Dodgers) has received calls from the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals this offseason. The 38-year-old right-hander, who missed the entire 2015 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, said his elbow feels "perfectly fine."

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo is expected to do a normal conditioning routine this offseason but he is nothing more than a late-round flier in single-universe and deep mixed fantasy baseball leagues at this point.

Reds | Bronson Arroyo interested in return to CIN

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 17:22:35 -0800

Free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Dodgers) is interested in returning to the Cincinnati Reds. He had lunch recently with manager Bryan Price and expressed a desire to rejoin the club he pitched for between 2006 and 2013.

Fantasy Tip: The 38-year-old right-hander said he is completely healthy after missing the entire 2015 season due to Tommy John surgery. He is scheduled to resume throwing Dec. 1, and anticipates having a regular offseason. Arroyo is nothing more than a late-round flier at this point due to his recent medical history.

Marlins | Miami adds prospects in blockbuster

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:32:28 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo as part of the a three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: This was strictly a salary dump for the Marlins. With Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) gone, Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to receive the majority of at-bats at first base. It is unknown who will join the starting rotation, and it is unlikely the Marlins are finished their roster makeover. Stay tuned for updates.

Braves | Atlanta adds Hector Olivera

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:17:03 -0700

The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.

Dodgers | Alex Wood, Mat Latos acquired by LAD

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:01:02 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30. The Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) receive a huge boost starting for a strong team, which boasts an excellent offense and bullpen. They can both be started with confidence in the majority of matchups. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has struggled significantly this season, and he will have a tough time receiving enough at-bats to tip the fantasy scales. Johnson goes from closing duties in Atlanta to being a set-up arm for the Dodgers, and he is nothing more than a desperation saves stash, as he is unlikely even the next man up.

Braves | Bronson Arroyo acquired from ARI

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 11:36:36 -0700

The Atlanta Braves have acquired SP Bronson Arroyo and minor league P Touki Toussaint from the Arizona Diamondbacks, in exchange for INF Phil Gosselin.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and is not expected to be activated from the disabled list before August. Toussaint, who is likely several years away from reaching the majors, was Arizona's first-round draft pick in 2014 and he features a mid-90s fastball and above-average curveball. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is currently on the disabled list with a fractured thumb but is expected to return to action in about a month.

Diamondbacks | Bronson Arroyo traded to ATL

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 11:35:51 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded SP Bronson Arroyo and minor league P Touki Toussaint to the Atlanta Braves, in exchange for INF Phil Gosselin.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a salary dump for Arizona, as Arroyo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will make $9.5 million this season and $11 million next year (or a $4.5 million buyout). Toussaint was the 16th overall pick in the 2014 draft and is several years away from reaching the majors. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a career .282 hitter through 70 major league games but is currently on the disabled list with a fractured thumb. He is expected to return to action by late July.
