"So I cranked it up a little bit more than I thought I would. It still felt comfortable." Arroyo will make his first regular season start Sunday, April 8, against the Miami Marlins.

If P Aroldis Chapman earns a spot this spring, he will likely be the No. 5 starter. Leake could be the No. 3, with Arroyo as the fifth starter.

"I'm taking extra measures to prepare my own food," he said. "I'm training half the time where I've always trained with my father and half the time with a guy in Naples, just to try to bring someone else to the table. I'm doing exercises I've never done in the past, trying to shore up my back to make sure I don't have any hiccups with that during the season." Arroyo added that he is also trying to get looser in his hip area because he has been bothered by tightness in his hips.

Arroyo plans to get his legs stronger and won't have much time for personal pleasures that normally frequent the offseason months. "There's a big difference between working out in the weight room and knowing you've got to meet some people for golf at 1 p.m., and you kind of half-way your lunch to get to the golf course," Arroyo said. "I'm going to push all of those things completely to the side and make sure about the amount of food I put in my body."
